Do I send Mooshi away?

Mooshi is in season, I ovulation pad (strip) tested her last night and the result was positive she is ovulating. This will be day 2 of her ovulation and day 9(ish) of her heat. The stud owner is bringing the stud to me tonight for a hopeful mating. IF she wont yet stand for him I am considering sending Mooshi home with the stud owner. I know the owner well, Mooshi will be kept in the house and not out it kennels and she will go to work for the day with the owner tomorrow. I will then see Mooshi again at 6am Friday morning when we all meet up to go to Belgium. However!! Mooshi has never been away from home without one of us, she has never been away from us at all since bringing her home. Mooshi doesn't like visiting as a rule, she will be in someone elses house, with me, for about 5/10 minutes before she is knocking at the door to go home. Do I bite the bullet for the sake of this breeding and send Mooshi away for 2 nights or do I say no and chance missing her prime receptive time because my girl is a homebody and a momma's girl Your advise PLEASE!!

Oh my. I can't answer that. I can, however, say I am sorry you are faced with this. I know what a difficult decision this is for you. I understand what you are saying as mine have never been away from home without me either. I assume that Mooshi knows and is friendly with the breeder? Sounds like if you ever do have to send her away for a day or two this is at least as perfect a situation as there can be since she will get to go to work with the breeder. Do you think she will stand if she is stressed about being away fom home and you?

I don't envy you in this......I am sure you will make the right decision.

I just don't know Kris if she will stand for him or not without me being there and being in a strange environment. She knows the stud owner, not super well but yes she knows her. I just don't know what to do. Am I not giving Moo enough credit and she will be fine or will she hate it and not be fine and cry for me?

I recall you saying the stud owner is a vet tech, if Moo won't stand would she be willing to collect him and help you do an artificial insemination?

How far away will she be going? Chances are you are not giving her enough credit, at least that is what people always say....LOL. Who knows, maybe she wil think it is a great adventure but you are enough like me when it comes to your dogs that I know exactly what you must be feeling. Hopefully, she will stand tonight and you won't have to worry about it. :-/

Yes I think she would. I will suggest that to her today before she sets off tonight to come to me. Good idea.

She will be going about an hour and a half Kris. And I agree, I am probably not giving her enough credit but SHE IS MY BABY!! LOL. Hopefully like you say she will stand for him tonight and I am worrying over nothing.

I'd not want to send Apollo away either, so I can TOTALLY understand!

Hey, at least she didn't ovulate while at the show!

True Ruth...but her timing is not great! Maybe Im not giving her enough credit? Maybe Im not treating her enough like a 'dog'. I know other breeders who send their bitches to the stud. My friend just came back from Italy from fetching her Japanese Akita bitch from a mating! But she is a outside kennel dog, not an in house dog like Mooshi.

I would just take her every night or take turns. You one night, the male the other night. You said she was a vet tech and that she would be taking Moo to work which means she will be exposed to all kinds of sick animals. I would hate to have to make that decision. Whatever you decide it will work out.

Thanks AB. She doesn't work in a vets anymore, she works at her son's pool hall. I wont be able to take her tomorrow night because she is meant to be getting groomed tomorrow night and the groomer is coming to me. I don't mind cancelling the groomer if Moo goes away but if she stays home then I would still get the groomer to come over and then see if Mooshi will stand on Friday morning when I take her up to Alexa the stud owner who I am going to Belgium with. Ohhhh this is a pain in the arse! Why couldn't Belgium have been the week before or the week after!

OK I have just spoke to a friend at work and she is of the opinion that if tonight doesn't work and I don't send her to Alexa's house and because there is such a small window in which to breed (48hrs or so) I will kick myself for not trying. She may be right, but its so hard to decide!

Hopefully, they will just knot, tonight. Could you take a couple of days off and stay with her? Actually, I think you may be coming down with the "Moo Flu"! Better stay home for a couple of days, don't want to get the whole office sick.

We sent Danae away without any issues, for a week so that we did not miss her peak. She loved it, got pics every day of her playing with their dogs, they also did another progesterone test about mid week to know where we stood with her. It is never easy and the first time we sent her was also the first time without us some place but she was awesome, so much so the stud owners offered to keep her or if we were ever for any reason not able to keep her to let them know and they would gladly take her. We have pics of her snuggling with the stud owner while watching sports. :) It was scary but I was comfortable with these people so I was alright sending her. If you can't breeder her naturally tonight, perhaps do an AI tonight that would have have live semen in her until you could do the natural on Friday. Semen tends to live for approx 48 hours and most breeders don't breed every day regardless, they all tend to skip a day. That would be what I would try anyway if not natural tonight, do an AI, then keep her for her grooming tomorrow night and do the breeding again on Friday by AI if you have to before heading out.

Mary you are a mind reader!! I had just texted the stud owner to tell her to bring her AI kit and she replied that its already in her bag.
