Does anyone give their Mastiffs bully sticks?

Ok, so I gave my EM A bully stick and was told it should last him a few hours. Well I had to go looking through my house to make sure he didn't hide it because it was gone in 5mins. My son said he never left his side till it was gone and the Goober proved it lol. So now I'm thinking he ate it whole! What ever happen to a couple.hours. Does anyone else give bully sticks and what's your outcome?

Im trying to find something that he can enjoy for awhile. Nothing lasts more then 10 mins. Once I heard bully sticks last hours I was all excited. I thought if it last normal dogs hours we can atleast get an hour out of one. Nope didn't happen

Takes Lincoln quite a while to finish one off at this age. I'm sure as he gets bigger they'll go quicker.

May also depend on what type of Bully you're getting. I bought the thickest 12 inch one at our local Pet Food Express (basically a PetCo or PetSmart) for about $7.99. Then I bought the thickest 12 inch Bravo one I could get at the High End Pet Store for $12.99. May not be able to tell how big a difference it is in the picture, but in real life the Bravo one is huge compared to the other one and lasts waaaaay longer.

My 5 1/2 month old EM goes thru a 12" bully stick in about 10 or 15 minutes but my 13 month old DDB takes a while on hers. By the time my EM is done with hers my DDB is probably about 1/4 of the way through hers.

We can get a 12-pack of the 12" bully sticks at Costo for $24. I can't remember where they're from... but I do believe it says "Made in the USA" on the package.

We gave Denna one to chew on in the car when we brought her home the first day - it took her about 4 weeks to get through it. Now, at 4.5 months, she can get through one in a few days. She'll chew for 15-20 minutes at a time on them, then come back to them again later.

They have a whole bunch of them at Pet Food Express, so I'd imagine they'd have them at Petsmart or PetCo too.

Haven't seen them at my local Petco/Petsmart, though that may not mean much. Both decent locally owned shops by me carry them, and several places have them online, including Amazon.

I used to feed them to Thor but they kept giving him the runs...so I stopped. I found a nice sized 4 point deer antler in the woods and he is NOT getting that, LOL. Though he shows no interest in it anyway.

I've never know a larger to giant breed dog to take more than about 15 minutes to gobble a standard size bully stick. I found that they get them down to a certain size & try to swallow them whole. One dog got one stuck cross ways in her mouth; took a lot to get it out. So we use antlers. But they're a special treat. We got our antlers at a rendezvous. They were really cheap. But there are places online where you can get them.http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24157
I
'm sure there are other places too. Just the first one I spotted. We can give them the antlers & they will keep them busy for almost an hour. And the antlers last a long time, also supposedly good for their teeth.

Wanted to add a little insight to the Bully Sticks. Our guy loves them. We have purchased from various online stores and locally as well. The majority of the ones we have had last a very short time almost get chewed up as if they were pork rinds. Bought a case from one vendor and can say the were not the BestBully sticks. The largest ones were gone in less than 5 min like the other poster said.

Recently bought a quantity from http://www.bullystickdirect.com/ and I have to say they are very different from all the other bully sticks we have tried. On the site they talk about the different technique used to dry the pizels. They do last at least 1/2 hr for a 6" large and will take a a movie to go through a 12". Our guy is not an aggressive chewer like some pups but he can put the sticks down. If you want one that will last longer I would try Bully Stick Direct. Only down side is they do smell more then the others we have tried. But it is worth a little smell to have a little quiet time for dinner or a movie. the elk antlers they have are a good price as well. Not as large in diameter as others we have purchased but half the price. The Moose antler was not worth the money. He loved it but it was expensive and gone in 20 mins.

The trachea's are good as well from Bully Stick Direct. They are a little greasy. The ones that are dry are nice to handle but do not last as long (not that they last). I have ordered some that are excessively oily. Their trachea's are a nice compromise.

When this case is close to vanishing I will be placing another order and always have these on hand.

I know it may sound like I am affiliated with the company but I am not. I just appreciate a good product and want to pass it along.

I'm a fan of bestbullysticks.com - very large selection of natural chews and the best prices I've been able to find, especially when compared to pet store prices. We regularly buy their "Jumbo" 12 inch bully sticks, usually 100 at a time. It takes Roux about 20 minutes, and Knox about 45 to finish these off. I saw they had a new "Monster" 12 inch bully stick the last time I went to order our regulars. They're a little more expensive than the "Jumbo," but I wanted to give them a try so I ordered 20 of them. Holy cow, they're HUGE. You'd never find one this thick in a pet store, and if you did I imagine they would charge $20 or more for it (they were $5 each through bestbullysticks.com). It took Roux about 45 minutes, and Knox had to take a break after about an hour and finished it up the next day (another 45 minutes or so).

Also, they sell giant elk and moose antlers for cheap. I just ordered 2 elk antlers that are seriously as thick and long as my forearm, and they were only $20 each. I've seen pet stores selling carrot sized antlers for at least that much before.

I agree with seeknoxrun--bestbullysticks.com is the place I have found for bs. Try the really thick/jumbo ones-great prices.

Just today, it was raining all day...(and all out of bully sticks) so I trotted over to the nearest pet shop and got a standard 12" bully stick to give Mateo something to work on, while I can work. It took him about 30 minutes to work through 1/2 of it; he picked it up later tonight and is almost done with the second half after lazily chewing on it for almost an hour.

It kind of depends on his mood; I have seen him chew through one in about 30 minutes or less...

My boy isn't a big chewer. He has a 12in bully stick that he's had for weeks - he rarely touches it. Most of the things he likes are the tracheas and these fish skin rolls that they sell at my pet food store - which he eats in no time. I've even tried raw bones to get him interested - and nope he just doesn't like to chew.

Have you tried cow hooves? They should last quite a while and most dogs really like them.
