Franklin has a trainer

Ok, here's the story.
The trainer works in a place that's 1.5 hours from me. Once we got Franklin in the car he was stressed and hot but soon settled down. When we got there we left him in the car while I met with Dan, got a tour around his facility, and met his dogs. He has at least 5 Corsos, 3 Presas, 1 Dane, 2 Neos and a BM, not to mention Akitas, a chow, and a few others. He loves each and every dog he has, even the "assholes". Lol He again explained that Franklin sees himself more as my husband than my dog, and that we need to teach him how to be just a dog again. The hardest part for me was putting him in the run. I had to do it since Franklin is fearful of men. It was a covered enclosure and I put him in it, gave him a hug, promised I would come back for him, then walked away. I forgot to give him his pink piggy, so I went back in. That was a mistake. He looked so confused. :( On a positive note, the more I talked to Dan, the better I felt. I think he knows what he's doing and in the long run, this will be good for Franklin. While he's there, he will be neutered and get his shots. I cried almost the entire trip there, so by the time I left him, it wasn't too bad. After his month, we will be sent to a behaviorist that will give me the rescue rate to continue to work with us to make sure we don't fall back into the same patterns.
The hardest part, by far, was walking in the door without him. His antler was laying on the bed and that made me sad. He doesn't understand what's happening to him, and I cant imagine how he must feel being locked in a run.
I can call everyday from 11-3 to get updates and they will even send me pictures of him. I can visit after two weeks.
I miss him so much.

I'm just going to backup that the time will pass faster than you can imagine. I know it doesn't feel like it but before you know it this month will be over and he will be home with you.

This morning was really hard. Usually when Franklin knows I'm awake, he jumps on the bed and gives me lots of kisses and he's wagging his tail like crazy. This morning, I was alone, and he was the first thing I thought about. I hope he didn't have a rough night. :(

:)TRAINING UPDATE NUMBER 1
From Beth, the rescue lady..."Dan contacted me and said that he was in the run with Franklin last night. Initial assessment is that there is nothing wrong with your boy. He will start working with him later today. This is very good news. We will have him back to you in no time. I am sure of that. Try not to worry."

Oooooh good for you! And great for Franklin - letting the Trainer into the run with him. I can't imagine how hard it was, but you did it! You stuck with it ... now matter how hard it was!!

In this time while Franklin is away, try to find something special that you can do just for you...your own personal celebration, rejuvenation, etc. We're all here for you!

And let me just say, this is an amazing gift that you and Franklin have been given. I am so impressed with the generosity of the rescue and trainer who are helping you guys!

It is amazing and I've already made up my mind to help them in any way I can when I'm able. Beth is going back out there today or tomorrow and will get pics and video of my boy for me.

TRAINING UPDATE #2...
i just got off the phone with the trainer. He said Franklin is depressed, but since I've been his whole world for so long, that's to be expected. He let the trainer in his run with only a small growl, but he won't eat the treats I left or the food yet.
He said Franklin is way ahead in behavior and maturity than many dogs he's worked with and his training will be very easy. He will start by building Franklin's trust. After that he will work on getting him into a car or truck. Once he knows Franklin is trustworthy and ok in a car, he will take him into the parking lot of a store and allow people to look at him without touching. once he's comfortable with that, people will be aloowed to pet him.
The main two goals for the next month are to lessen the bond with me and to give him more socialization. Since Franklin is still young, it's not too late for him. He will be neutered during the second or third week, and I can visit him in one week instead of two. :)

Awesome! One thing, dont humanize him so much. You have to stop that or you're going to be back to square 1 when he gets home. he IS a dog, and you'll both be happier when you can honor that in him.

And you'll be able to share him with others. He will miss you, but he's going to be busy learning and he will enjoy that too.

Im amazed you've been awarded this opportunity for free, how blessed are you!

The one real thing I'm worried about is the heat. The kennel doesn't have an air conditioner yet. He's supposed to get it installed in the next week or two. It's over 100 today. Franklin is sprayed down 3 times a day and there are a lot of fans, but I'm worried he will get too hot.
Im missing my boy a lot right now. :(

I know the two of you are missing each other, but the time will go by and you both will be better for it. Plus think of all the great times you will have when he gets home!

Glad to hear he made it! Parker was depressed too, went on a hunger strike for the first week or two but he got over it and Franklin will too. Its really amazing that they are doing this training for free, ours was around $1000, but worth every penny! I am so excited for you two!

Update:

Franklin is still depressed. :( The trainer said that Franklin has developed a bond to me like DDBs and Corsos do with their owners. He won't lift his head or wag his tail and he hasn't eaten in two days. Later today, he will be taken out of his run for the first time and walked around the enclosure to see how he does. I will definitely be going out there next weekend to see him. I want to go pick him up right now. He's miserable and it's my fault. :(
