Full raw or lightly seared?

My dog was rejecting his food after some bloodwork done earlier this week. My family and I are moving across country so we wanted to make sure everything was okay with him before we have him on a 2-3 day car ride. He has been on raw since he was 2 months old (now he's a year and a half). After two days of rejecting his food, I called the vet and he suggested lightly searing his meat. So I baked some sweet potatoes, diced them and mixed it with lightly seared chicken (very raw on the inside). He gobbled it without any problems. He was actually back to his normal self after he ate. Now that he's tasted the seared meat, I'm sure he will try to test me by avoiding his meals again to see if I'll cave in and go with lightly cooked meat again. Now I'm discussing this with my BF and we're not sure what the real difference is between full raw or lightly cooked meat. We're considering sear his meat (all boneless) going forward making it easier to mix up with other vegetables and fruits. Continue giving him chicken backs and necks for optimum balance (raw of course) and all other bones, eggs, supplements.

What do you think?

Anyone else follow a similar diet?

I had to do this for Jade for about 3 months when she went off feed. She would just smell her food and turn away. So searing it very hot and fast seemed to work.

Do you still have to sear the meat? If you do, do you sear it just slightly on the outside and leave it completely raw inside? I'm beginning to think that's how Bane wants to eat his food. I guess it's fine, but I am unsure of the best way to feed him with all nutrients of the meat in tact.

I don't have to do this anymore she got over whatever it was that was bugging her. Also right now she has puppies and will eat anything and everything I give her except talapia. And yes all I did was give the outside a fast brown, with a littel garlic salt or cajun seasoning and she was all over it. Inside was raw.

He could also be picking up on the changes in your house with a move. Our boxer girl will do the same thing each time we move (3 times in the 7 years she's been with us.) She always goes off feed as soon as she sees boxes getting packed and stays that way until the last one is out of sight.

Good luck with our move - where too?

I haven't started packing anything yet, don't see how he would pick up on that yet. But I know he's going to be following me throughout the house when it does.

And thanks, going out to good ol' Colorado :)

The idea with the sear is just to add flavor/scent without cooking the majority of the meat - so most of the raw nutrients should be left as-is.

I'd probably sear less and less over time, and see if you can go back to plain raw (with or without the veggies and other adders) - just because I'm lazy and don't want to have to cook my dog's food. :)

Good luck with the move!

I continue to sear Titan's meat for almost 3 years now. No change in his body condition due to the searing of his meat. Yes, I have a food monster but I do not mind searing his meat.
