"Gently Pasteurized" and the Raw Diet

Hi All,
I was at the pet store yest. and I saw that two or three of the foods in the Raw Food section had the label "gently pasteurized". I occasionally buy the mass market stuff when I run low and am waiting for my order from the Raw Food co-op. My question is does the pasteurizing get rid of some, most or all of the benefits of feeding Raw?

Thanks!

Pasturizing is the process of heating food to kill dangerous bacteria. To much heat changes the structure of the food, which can change the benefits.

I'd want a definition of "gently pasturized" first before I could guess as to how much damage it'd do.

Having said that I've certinally used premade raw products when running short. As long as your dog tolerates them I see no harm in using them for such, or when traveling or when someone is pet sitting for you, even if it is gently pasturized.

I agree with Ruth. The premade stuff is nice in a pinch, and can add some variety, too. But, I try and stick with the whole foods for the majority of Denna's diet.

"gently pasteurized" I think is heated to 160-165F for a short time before it's chilled again. The temp & time at temp appear to be manufacturer's choice, though... It might denature some of the proteins, but hopefully most of them wouldn't be effected.
