Hello my name is Michele and i live in Tennesee. on the weekends i volunteer with the no-kill animal rescue groups. When i am doing that i am showing my aunts two Mastiffs. i am the breeder/co-owner/handler of two Mastiffs. the first one is a 2 year old Neopolitan Mastiff name Deliha and the second one is a 9 1/2 month old Tibetan Mastiff name Tyson. Deliha just had her first litter and they are doing wonderful. I just starting show Tyson and he is doing great. My aunt had an Old English Mastiff for a 11 1/2 years name Zues. Zues was one of a kind. Before he was a year old he had both hips replaced and three months after that he bloated. If it was not for me being there when he bloated, he would have not survived. a couple of months ago, Zues lost his battle with Bone Cancer. He lived 8 months to the day he was diagnosed with bone cancer. He was 11 1/2 years old when he passed on.

Zues was a wonderful old English Mastiff. I loved that dog with all of my heart. He saved my life once. He saved me from getting bit by a cottonmouth. He took two bites from the cottonmouth. He was very lucky to have survived the bites. One bit was on side of his face and the other was on his right front leg. He spent the night at the vet on anti-venom called the vet the next day and the vet was laughing saying he is doing fine. He was standing up in his cage barking and his tail was wagging. He was able to come home the next day. It broke my heart when i got the call from my aunt that beautiful fall morning. She called me from the vet and she says i have some bad news. I knew it was about Zues. She said earlier that morning he had a seizure at home. They had rushed him to the vet and the vet did some tests. The news was not good. The cancer had spread to his brain. my aunt and uncle and i decided not to do any chemo-therapy because of his age. He had gone in cardiac arrest once and they got his heart to start beating they told me if i wanted to say good-bye i needed to get up there immediately. I drove all the way to the vets office wondering when i get there will it be too late to say good-bye. When i got there they put me in a exam room and they carried Zues in and laid him on the floor. He had his blanket under him. I sat down by Zues's head and said i guess this is it. I told him how much i loved him and he was a wonderful dog. I will miss him but it was time to say good-bye and head to Rainbow Bridge. Me, my aunt, and uncle were in the room when the vet gave him the shot to put him to sleep. I held his head in my arms. When the vet said he was gone i broke down and started crying. we buried him in one of his favorite places to lay down. it was under a oak tree in my aunt and uncle's front yard.

Welcome to the board, Michele :) Zeus' story is very touching. I think many of us have stood there at that doorway with our beloved dogs. It never gets any easier.

Which end of the state are you on? I'm about 45 minutes north east of Knoxville.

My aunt called me today and told me Tyson was limping and we thought oh no Hip Dysplasia. Turns out he has a broken right hind leg. 8 weeks in a cast for him. Deliha is at my house and Tyson broke both bones in his right hind leg, so he is not coming back until the cast comes off.
