Hi all! My name is Sasha and I'm a proud new mommy to Leo- 6wk old Mastiff puppy!!! I've owned Great Danes before as well as one Dane/mastiff mix. Currently Leo has two German Shepherd siblings- Sabo and Kia. Two kitty siblings- Brian and Caviar. A Ferret brother- Hollywood and a gecko sister- Titan.

He was 6lbs 8oz when we got him. The growth charts I've seen say he should be 10lbs????? He eats well- but not a lot, maybe 2 cups of kibble a day, watered so it's soft. I was thinking maybe I should just give him dry? But it seems a bit hard for his teeth. I was mixing I wet food with it, but his poops got soft, so I stopped that!

Welcome!!! Would love to see pictures of your new addition! Why did he leave his momma so soon at 6 weeks? Don't pay too much attention to the growth charts...focus more on body condition. Pups vary so much at that age and slow steady growth is really best. A lot of mastiffs have grain and chicken allergies so just something to be aware of :). What type of mastiff puppy is Leo? You'll find so much useful info on here!

Welcome. Ignore the growth charts as very few puppies actually fit that pattern. My EM was up to 20 lbs lighter than smaller breeds his age as a puppy. He took longer to get big but he is now one of the big boys. They all grow at the rate they are supposed to.

Thank you for the calming advice!!!!! My shepherds are both small....though I'm hoping that helps them avoid the hip issues and DM that took my last shep. So- whether Leo is huge or pocket sized...I love him! Besides, he'll never be as big as his daddy! He stands 6'7"!!!!! LOL

Beautiful skin and fur family. Don't pay attention to the growth charts. These big guys grow in spurts One week they will be 20 pounds below norm, a month later they will be 10 pounds ahead.

I dunno my EM Hank is Pretty damn tall When He stands up! I'm not tall by any means 5'8" but he is MUCH taller than I am. You'll be surprised how big they can actually get lol.

Kryten can get up to about 6 feet and he is on the low end in terms of shoulder height for an EM. One with longer legs I could see reaching 6'-6" pretty easy.

Welcome! Your pup is a pretty cute 'lil guy. Enjoy him regardless of size. He'll get where he needs to be without a lot of fussing with his diet. Just stay away from any "Puppy" focused blends. Mastiff puppies need adult food from day one to prevent over growing their skeleton too early and too fast. Any super rapid growth in the juvenile stages can cause expensive and painful (to the pup) frame problems that surgery is required to address. My pup Thane is just 10 months, 160 Lbs., and if I allow him to stand against me, he is within 3 - 4 inches of eye-to-eye with me. I am 6'4". Size will come, Best to work on socialization skills with your pup and other dogs, and other people in unfamiliar places.

Welcome! Gorgeous family you have. Looks like my house used to -kids, ferrets, geckos, Leos, DM. Sorry you lost one to DM, it's a terrible thing. Did you know that there's genetic testing for it now? It's done through OFA. Anyway - my EM Ella was from a rescue situation and came to me at about five weeks old. She weighed 6lbs at 6 weeks. She's three years old now and around 130-ish. Slow and steady growth is what you want.

Thank you for all the replies!!!! Loosing my shep to DM was really hard! He was wanting to play all the way through the end! He was the greatest dog in the world! I had no clue there was genetic testing now!!!! Will look into that!

If this guy comes close to daddy's height I'll die! LOL I'm only 5'3"!

Welcome to the forums and as the rest have said ignore charts. Great looking pup and group. Oh and sorry but he may very well actually get taller than his doggie daddy. I'm 6'8 and exgf's EM Romeo can put his paw on my shoulder and is slightly taller than I am. Granted Romeo is on the large side for even EM's
