In need of advice....

Hello all! I dont really know where to begin. I work in the construction industry in NYC. My boss and a few other employees thought it would be a great idea to get a Neo Mastiff puppy and have her become a "security dog". So far they have had her for a week now. And I am the only one who has brought her home at night. She is two months, she has not been to the vet yet but I'm crossing my fingers she gets to her appointment this weekend. They feel its ok to keep her in my office and my bosses office all day without any contact with other ppl. The other day she was in my bosses office all day with no water, he feed her treats all day and she was never walked so she went in the office. They plan on leaving her there at night and when she is older leaving her outside all night to "watch the yard". (she will be alone for over 12 hours every day and day and a half on the weekend) I have tried to talk to my boss and other employees to try to save this dog from a unfair and isolated life. I have someone to take her in who has mastiff and is well aware of the needs for this bread of dog. My heart is breaking for her, I can take her home at night now while she is a puppy to try to train and socialize her without them knowing. Im just looking on some advice to get her out of this situation, I am having trouble finding laws on this. I know it might not be "wrong" but in my heart it is. She is a beautiful and extremely loving puppy and i want her to have the best life and family that every dog deserves.

As a Neo puppy she will be naturally "guardy" as an adult. What she needs now is a ton of socialization so she does not become a liability as well as training, lots of it. It is impressive to have a 150lb guard dog, but if you cannot call her off you will create a monster and that is not what she or the breed needs. She needs to get out and get everywhere she possible can as much as she can.
Neo's are very family oriented dogs, like the Corso, they are not dogs that will do well away from their "people" for extended periods of time. They do best in and around their home with their people. Leaving a breed like this alone for 12 hours is torturous IMO, let alone 1.5 days.
My question is what breeder sold the puppy knowing that it would live the life of a junk yard dog. This story breaks my heart, it truly does.

She was purchased from a pet store from what I was told. What things can I do with her to until I can get her into a proper home? I have never had or trained this kind of breed before. I would like to try my best to train and socialize her while I am in the office.

Your boss is an asssssss! I'm sorry I will probably get reprimanded for saying asssss but the dog will be just as likely to attack him as an intruder. If your boss wanted a protection dog he should purchase one not just hope a dog will become one. It would be nice if the dog could somehow escape and find it's way to a nice family.

If your boss consistently abuses her (which he is) my advice is to report this to the appropraite humane society or police anonymously and then offer to take her yourself.

Sad! The first thing is if the dog esp. a puppy is left for so long it will become bored and may become destructive and how much destruction is the boss going to tolerate?

I think you need to try to talk to your boss and explain all of this to him. From these dogs having the natural guarding instinct and how imp. it is for a dog to be socialized. Share with him what possibly could happen and how he is liable incase these things occur from raising a pup this way. Do it in a nice concerning caring way and if he doesn't want to hear it then throw the daggers at him with... You need to educate yourself and see it for yourself. You best see this before it's too late and don't forget i told you to try to save you and someone else. Best of luck to you and you can do it. :)

Forgot this part.. Also mention you need to make sure the dog has food and water that's just plain negligence. How would you like it to have no water?

another reason why petstores have NOOOO business selling live animals let alone Neos!! your boss is going to have a lawsuit sooner or later and the dog will pay the ultimate price, not to mention the fact that in most states there are laws that state specifically mandate that the dog needs to have adequate shelter, food and water regularly. I agree it would be nice if the dog accidentally "escaped" and ended up in a better situation. people like your boss have NOOO business having ANY dogs. we had a similar incident in my town with a rotti...the dog bit twice and did some serious damage and was ultimately euthanized after a vicious hearing and the owner was sued. Tell your boss if he wants security he should get an alarm system. You can call your local animal Control for the laws currently in place on food/shelter etc. and in the meantime, if you are able to... socialize her and as much as possible and she should be spayed and NEVER bred (since she more than likely originated from a puppy mill).

No water? Anonymous call to ASPCA may be in order. Also, they sound like they are setting themselves up for a lawsuit which will not be good for either the company or the dog.

Sounds like a bad thing waiting to happen all around.

Edit: *sorry ripsmom I did not see your response* needless to say I completely agree with you!

So i went into work with all fists up and my facts together. I firmly talked to my boss and the person who purchased the dog. In a nutshell I made it very clear that she( Pebbles) needs proper care, food, water and a HOME. I told them I will not enable this situation anymore( i take her home at night so she isnt alone). They have ONE WEEK to take care of her or find her a better home. OR i will be making a phone call! We'll see how it goes. Pebbles has her first vet visit tomorrow. (i guess they couldn't get her to the one scheduled on Saturday).. I will keep you all updated. I want to thank everyone who replied. It definitely gave me the support i needed!

There you go. That sounds like a good idea. That puppy needs out of that awful situation asap. I can't imagine leaving Lillie alone for that amount of time. She'd go nuts!!! Please help that puppy find a forever HOME.
