AHAHAHA That dog is like "Oh.....were doing this again, yawn".
My question with dogs trained like this, what happens when your not there to give the attack command and he needs to stop a threat? I don't have as much knowledge on the Filas as most of you, but for some reason this just seems to me like you've broke his spirit.
That's crazy, all that training, sleeve work, all that for someone to come steal him. That's kinda what I figured would happen, your not their to give the guard/attack command so the dog is friendly. I'm not saying this would be the case with all dogs in Schutz, etc but I would much rather have a Fila that is a natural guardian. What happens you ask?

This is what happens.
The problems is sports people are breeding for extremes.. Extreme prey drive.. Looks great on the field--the dog hits the decoy like a truck ,will do the best obedience for a ball... but is loyal only to a ball or tug toy. The dog will die for a ball not his owner.
Sch, ipo, ring dogs, etc originally were bred balanced 50:50 prey:defense now it's almost all prey with a bit of prey aggression/ possevines for the prey. I've taken pd dogs out of the squad car with a ball on a string. I've walked into working dog kennels and took dogs out of the kennel with a tug toy. All of. The owners said I could never do this.... It's sad and a battle I'm fighting everyday trying to persevere the breeding and workability of a balanced dog.
my original Fila breeder was also a trainer plus ex military in Hungary,he pounded this in our heads from day one. my 1st Dogo would take a treat from someone else and then turn his head and spit it on the floor, lol. I always teased he was a womanizer, as he only did this with women. If a man tried to give him a treat he flat out refused. How many of you are training your dogs food refusal?
You can have the best dog in the world but if it isn't trained only to eat food out of a food dish followed by a que by you to "eat" then a dead dog won't protect much.
All my dogs are trained to
1.wait for a que before they can eat
2. Not eat anything that is on the ground
3.only except treats from myself or close family
4. Associate food from anyone else in the world as a threat
This sucks if you are going on a vacation, but keeps dogs alive.
Richmond pd lost a good k9 to a poisoned meat ball, his handler didn't listen to us when we said he should teach food refusal- fast forward 14 months later and his partner is gone forever......
It's amazing how many people who claim to have a guard dog, protection dog, etc don't take the time to make sure the dog can live long enough to do what they claim it can do....
BH where are you located? Just curious
correct! and if you even think of bringing a dog with some defense drive to the field they all turn their nose up and say the dog is a bag of nerves... lol. why? because it is serious and doesnt think its a game?

I'll love to ear about how you train fod refusal on your dogs, your experience or what to look for on a trainer who might help with it since i been wondering if i could train my dog to do it.
