Large red bumps in armpit

Hi y'all. I have a 6 month old (as of yesterday) Neapolitan Mastiff, Moose. I was rubbing his belly tonight, and I found that he had these red welts in one of his armpits. They look like an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite, but they're only clustered in the one armpit. I'm a little hesitant to bring him to our vet right away (she likes to medicate him for everything under the sun, and she's nuts..currently looking for a new vet), and wanted to see what you guys thought. Have any of you had this problem before? He gets Frontline & HeartGuard monthly, and he only runs around in my backyard. He has been never had anything like this before, and I'm worried it could be something serious. The bumps range in size from half a dime, dime, and a nickel (there are around 6 bumps). I changed his food over 2 months ago, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I haven't noticed irregular itching, or any change in his behavior. Thanks in advance!

sometimes my dog would get a little red in the arm pits and i just attributed it to heat rash, it gets hot here and with heat and running maybe it gets irritated, but weve been making food changes to find what works best for him theres a chance it could be allergy related as we think our dog is allergic to a food ingredient, but to me it doesnt make as much sense being in the armpit for that.

Could he have run through some tall seedy grasses and gotten a "rug-burn"?

You could put some neosporin or sulfadene on it - or one of the hot-spot sprays if it seems to be irritating him. I'd give it a few days and see if they go away, since you have a nut for a vet. :)

Can you get a picture of them to post?
The size reference makes them seem like really big spots.

Titan gets the red bumps in his arm pits and on the back of his legs. He appears to get them when he's been in high grass or laying down in the grass. I do not let him sit or lay down in grass because I believe he's allergic to it. On our play dates, he plays in the grass with Sadie and his belly and legs get red bumps. They disappear after a few days.
