It is common in ALL breeds of Mastiffs, actually any large breed period.
Personally I don't think it looks "wrong" at all, it is part of life.
My dogs have elbow calluses, they have dog beds but most times prefer to sleep on our cool tile.
Most, if not all CC in Italy, working CC that is, have the same calluses. It is a very Western concept to give dogs comfy soft bedding, furniture and spoil them the way we do.
To be honest from your post, it seems like you are searching for faults in CAFIB dogs that aren't there. Not saying they don't have faults, but if the best that you can find here is calluses...
If you have "mainly" seen those in CAFIB dogs, that leads me to believe that you haven't looked at many large breed working or farm dogs/breeds.
They are pretty common.
CAFIB on the other hand could care less...farm dog against farm dog, lol.
and when does that EVER happen? look at the amparo shows, the belo shows, minas, sao paolo...stop concentrating on one kennel because of what you heard.
I was born at night but not last night. I know what goes on down there chief, don't rely on hearsay. Many times the best physical specimen in the show gets jack squat, and the sponsoring kennels dogs "steal the show". And there are not that many "farm" filas left in the motherland, there are alot of "kennel" filas and that includes your beloved organization. I personally could care less about shows and would put much more emphasis on temperament or how a dog can pull down a hog. Of coarse thats illegal in Brazil now. Ironic.
Wow, wonder why.
........ok
Brazilian citizens are losing their their liberties at an alarming pace. Traditions such as hunting which have been ingrained in the culture for centuries are gone out the window. It is a direct result of a neo liberal govt in complete control ramming laws down the throats of its people. Believe it or not there has been conversations in a few states of banning Filas, the national dog. Ironic.
