I need advice on a new collar for my EM, she is 6 months old and about 80 lbs ......Here is my problem she is being either defiant or just a brat. I am not sure if she is hitting another "stage" or if she is just being stubborn. Lately when she has decided that she doesn't want to do something she will sit or try to turn and bolt on me. Last week we were getting into the car when she decided that she did not want to do this, after a few moments of trying to reason with her she tried to back out of her collar thank god I was able to grab her collar so she didn't completely get out of it. I am wondering what opinions others have on collars, I have always used a choke collar on all my large breed dogs. Thanks everyone in advance!!!!

Martingale! You get a little more safety than with a choke and that couple inches of restrictions I tighten when you need it.

I use them for my boys.

I am hoping Mike jumps on here as I know that he makes them. What type of martingale do you use? the one with the chain?

depending on her size you may be able to get an inexpensive one at Petsmart, they're all webbing with no chain, and would let you get used to the concept. Otherwise yes, you're probly going to end up with one with a chain, same concept though. The ones Mike makes aren't adjustable, which is a downside with a growing dog.

I have never used a martingale. It looks like this is an alternative to a choke collar is that correct?

Perfect I will pick one up this week. After her trying to slip out twice already I am afraid to take her out now. Ruth do you think that she is going thru a fear stage? I haven't had an issue with the car since she was a pup and then out of nowhere this has happened.

Possible, or she's just decided to be a brat, but if you're having lots of reactions to the car then the car it is. Go back to step one, treats and praise for approaching the car, for sniffing the car, for getting into the car, for sitting in the car. Lotsa short trips to fun places (even if its just the empty lot down the road for a quick game of fetch). That sorta thing.

I agree with everyone else a martingale is good. Stone is an ass too, who likes to slip out of the flat. So I use the "martingale leash."
