***Need Advice*** Weekend Vacation with the dog and weather

So we had planned to take the dog with us on vacation this weekend to Utah, where its still pretty warm. Originally it was supposed to be partly cloudy and slightly cooler all weekend, now its looking like its sunny and around 90-100. I know Zola gets hot just walking around the corner in the morning, but what else can I do to keep her cool? Its only a quick trip, friday night and coming home sunday.

I planned on going out for a nice walk early in the morning, and possibly playing in the river during the day to keep her cool, then just staying inside the hotel and relaxing until night. Obviously any resturants that are dog friendly are ones with patios, and with it still being in the 80s-possibly 90s at night, is it ok to be sitting with her outside to eat? I was planning on grabbing dinner after the sun goes down around 8-9. I do have a cooling vest for her (its the roughwear jacket you soak in water and then put on them, and as it evaporates it keeps their back cool) But we were going to try to get lunch on sunday before we leave in the small town we are staying in, and im thinking that might be to hot....

I'm so worried about trying to eat outside with her, and her getting too hot, but theres not a lot of options for making food in the room as they don't even have a microwave. I considered not taking her and leaving her home instead, but I think she could have fun if I just approach the heat in the right way with her.

Has anyone gone on any summer vacations? How do you deal with eating outside and the dogs in the heat?

What about ordering food in at the hotel? Pizza? Or calling the order in at the restaurant and taking it to go so that you can enjoy it in the air conditioned hotel room without having to worry?
When it is too hot I try not to take my dogs outside strictly more than needed (for potty breaks only basically).

Bummer.
I was going to say it sounds like you have it totally covered!

We just spent the weekend in Eastern WA where it was regularly 85-90F during the day... last year, same place was triple digits. We do have A/C in our RV, but when we turn it on it's normally still 78-85F inside (about 20F cooler than outside).

We didn't do much walking - but early in the morning when it's cool is a great option - avoiding sunny black pavement, which gets hot and stays hot.
We did do a LOT of swimming in the nearby river (water temp a cool 72F). Then, just a lot of sitting around in the shade waiting for fur to dry. :)

For the one lunch out on a patio - take a bottle of water for the pup and keep him hydrated and in as much shade as possible. As long as there's lots of fresh air, the dog should be fine.

Not sure about other people's dogs... but the hotter it is around here, the longer Denna wants to bathe in the sunshine. Crazy dog!
The only thing I avoid in the heat is excess exercise (which for Denna... at 3yrs old... means no walks needed).

Where we live it regularly hits 100F in summer and even over 110. I have no airconditioning except for a PUNY useless little unit in one bedroom that after a few hours might cool it off enough for me to get to sleep. Plus, it's often very humid to boot.

I have converted the garage into dog-land (it's a rental so I can't have them inside the house, thus the garage is theirs and they graciously allow me to hang out with them) and there is a section of the floor that is 100% shade and cold to touch and that's where they hang out when it's hot. This year I am also rigging up wall fans on a 24 hour timer for when I am at work. I also use cool coats (the chamois type).

Another idea I have see but not tried is converting an old pair of cargo pants into a saddle-type arrangement - wet the coat and then put small freezer bricks in the cargo pockets.

Alas, my DDB won't set paw in the wading pool :(
