I thought that the proper way to pronounce Cane Corso was KAH-nay, but literally everyone who comes up to me and compliments me on Stella will tell me that I have a beautiful KAIN (like candy CANE). is it acceptable to pronounce it either way??

You are correct with kah-nay and I get CANE all the time too. Sometimes I correct people and other times I don't. It depends on my mood I guess :)

Honestly, it is one of my pet peeves. I really don't mind when people say she looks like a boxer, pit, dane, lab, etc... but for some reason when they say I have a nice KAIN corso it bothers me a little. But it happens sooo often that I thought maybe I was wrong and it actually is okay to say KAIN lol. I've corrected people before but some people dont like being corrected and honestly Id rather not have the debate lol.

No you aren't wrong but people tend to pronounce it the way that they see it spelled. It can get irritating but I am more forgiving people who have only read about them, or only have met one or two. What seriously irritates is someone that owns one or even worse that breeds them not being able to say it properly.

I wont lie, I say cane. Only cause I cant wrap my brain around the way yall spell it out. Looks like kanya west to me. Blackshadow or cody spelled it out for me once and I'm just a little to slow. ahahahaha. I need to hear it. Then I will say it proper

Here in italy we say something that sounds like

Can't (you should pronounce it with a british accent and not spell the sound T but the sound A of "and")

+

Course (you should pronounce the sound O of "over" after pronouncing "course")

I know it's very misleading but i tried my best :)

lol! I can hear it in a British accent, but not say it that way, on the other hand I will admit that I've said "kain" instead of "kah-ne". It has more to do with not having the opportunity to actually SAY it very often so the correct one hasn't locked in over the one I learned as a kid. I mostly just say 'corso' and everyone knows what I mean lol

What I've gotten a few times is:

Them: "What breed is that?"
Me: "Cane Corso."
Them: "My friend has a CAIN Corso that looks kinda like that."
Me: "They're the same breed, just a different pronunciation."
Them: "No, I think a CAIN Corso (is brindle/larger/doesn't have cropped ears)"
Me: "... Okay"

I think folks would rather make up a new breed than admit they've been pronouncing it wrong!

This is the exact conversation I have had on many occasions!! The last time I took Jax to the pet store it took me 10 minutes to get in the door and to my destination! I would like to get him a shirt that says "I am a cane corso". lol
