Hello Everyone,
I own a Bullmastiff, not a mastiff. Unfortunately right now I am looking for some help or any direction from members. My bully is only 2 1/2 and is very ill. He started by showing symptoms of not eating and not wanting to be touched. These behaviors were out of the blue since he is a very lovely and energetic dog. His back became hunched and he hated being touched on his abdomen. He had a fever of 103.5. Our vet provided steriods for him and the next day he was worse. We took him to an animal hospital and they kept him for two nights and hooked him up to IV;s. They performed a spinal tap and couldn't find anything. All the test results came back negative. His blood work and x-rays also did not show much of anything. We were allowed to take him home when his fever came down and we were advised to put him on prednisone, amatadine, and zenaquin. He was back up to the hospital a week later for showing signs of regressing back. They performed and abdomen ultrasound and only found a slight inflammation of the small intestine. We were told to continue the medications, feed him a blend diet, and he was sent home with tramadol. He was doing well up until a few days ago when he started with diareha. We are currently giving him a blend diet so we are not sure how to stop it. The vet on call said to give him pepto bismol and they would see him on Monday. Our dog is also going to physical therapy twice a week to build up muscle again. Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. The baby is to young to be going through these issues. I look forward to our responses.
Thanks,
A very concerned mommy!

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. From what it sounds like your dog has some symptoms of kidney failure. I just lost my 3 1/2 yr old Mastiff last week to it, and he had the same symptoms. I would take him to the vet and ask them to run bloodwork to check his kidney levels. If they are high you may be able to bring them down with treatments such as Epakitin and a special dog food. I am not a vet but I would have it checked out because if it is caught early it can be maintained. I wish you and your family the best.
