Ode to the irresponsible breeder

I found this on another forum and thought it worth sharing. I do hope the author wont mind as it is done to spread the word! REMEMBER ME -ODE TO THE IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDER
- Trudie James -

Remember me, though I know that you won't
I'm the pup that you bred, I'm the soul that you owned

Remember my mum, though you'll just get confused
She's the bitch that you broke, she's the womb that you used

Remember the vet that you didn't call
When the blood ran so dark in our cold dank stall

Remember how cruelly you kicked me away
When I dared lick your hand - I just wanted to play

Remember the age that you wrenched me from mum
With my hold on life fragile and my weaning not done

Remember the home that you didn't check
That kept me outside with a chain round my neck

You'll remember the blood money you exchanged for my life
You'll remember the goodies it bought you and the wife

Now imagine my fate and cringe with your shame
See my sad lifeless eyes and my skeletal frame

I've known neglect and abuse I feared never would end
When Death came for your pup, it came as a friend

There are thousands just like me in the yard, street and pound
And whilst bad breeders breed this grim cycle goes round

You failed in your duty though I was born at your will
Now I'm your fatal shadow that walks by you still

I hope, my cruel breeder, that your guilt's worth your gain
You filled your car with my fear, bought your beer with my pain

But no act goes unnoticed and no sin goes unpaid
You'll account for my life at the end of your days

I'll be right there beside you when at your Reckoning you stand
You'll remember me then - it's my blood on your hands .

Wow, touching! Made me tear up.

Tony went on a day trip with my brother on Saturday and they were approached by a lady asking if he would stud Tony out. "I have the same type of dog! I think I'm going to breed her! Would you let your dog impregnate mine?" My brother responded (as he was coached) with, "Sorry, he is just a baby, and won't be bred. He was purchased on a non-breeding contract... I think we will leave the breeding to registered breeders."

Really good. I get asked all the time to breed my girl. My answer is always the same "not until there are no more dogs left in pounds, rescues, and shelters"

How touching. This really hits home, since I just adopted my mastiff from the humane society about two months ago.

Thanks MM! That is a great read!

Thumbs up to Tony's mom for educating them a bit! It will only get worse though as he grows :( and there are a couple more breeders that have just popped up in your area and 2 in mine so be ready for an influx of the breed.

Wow! Goosebumps! As a vet tech I see the horrors of irresponsible breeding all too much. For us that love our breeds and love what we do we help the ones we can but there are some that we just cant get to in time. Very sad, reality is.

Two thumbs up, MM! I'm showing it to my hubby - someone filled his ears about mating. NOT HAPPENING.

So sad and powerful. When we were looking at breeders I was always concerned if they didn't ask questions about us, if they didn't care about their pups potential new owners, super red flag. Our breeder also made clear to everyone who got a pup that for whatever reason if you couldn't keep the pup that they would take them back so none of them would end up at a rescue or pound(never going to happen with us though, our dog is family:)).

I think I am going to try and convince my husband to adopt another one in a couple years, I think that would be a great experience.

That's pretty heavy--my wish is that it reaches the people who still cannot FEEL enough at this point to stop.

Tessa's trap scar on her right foot, & her broken tail, which appears she will never be able to fully lift, fill me with deep sadness to think of the horrors she suffered before someone found her & took her to rescue. She was skinny when I got her-though 20lbs, it was her all big bones, she had no fat pad on her spine or hind end--& her foster's fed her well for the few weeks they had her, so I can imagine how she was before they took her.
I thought her scar would fade, but it got bigger, & the place where her tail was injured has not grown proper as well.
My gut tells me she has issues with her hips.

She's just a furry ball of love, & I have no idea how any human being could've ever neglected her.
