  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Our first Mastiff

Hello everyone! My name is Joanna and my family and I are the very new and extremely proud owners of a 2 year old male Japanese Mastiff (Tosa Inu) X Bulldog by the name of Marrok.

We have been talking about getting a Mastiff or Mastiff cross for quite awhile now and two things hurried that decision along. We recently purchased a home and within a month suffered a home invasion. Our female yellow Labrador, Bella, was in the house when it happened and thankfully was unhurt though has proven she is no kind of guard dog LOL. Her breed is naturally friendly to everyone so that's to be expected.

However, since my husband works permanent nightshift it left me and my children feeling very unsafe in our new home so the decision to seek out our Mastiff became even more of a priority. Then fate stepped in. A family needed to rehome their Tosa Inu and he is everything we could want. Raised with small children and cats, used to being home with the mom and child while the dad was working, very well loved so that as much as he is a home protection factor, he was and is a beloved family dog. For me it's an added benefit that I don't have to get him through the less than fun puppy stage on my new carpets. :)

Now if this forum is like any others I bet you are thinking "okay enough with the typing lady....post some pictures!" So here he is....

I know I'll have a lot of questions about Marrok and I'm so pleased to find a forum like this. :)

What a gorgeous boy!! I understand how you feel in regards to safety as well. My boyfriend is away frequently on business, and it's just me at home. I love the feeling of security my dog Thor gives me, I'd be a nervous wreck without him.

Thanks for the response. :)

It's been an awful thing since we've never had a house break-in and to have one right after we bought this house - well it was very disheartening to say the least.

Marrok is just simply blowing me away folks! Granted I've always heard about how smart and discerning Mastiffs are and I am more used to the goofball everyone is my friend Labrador - but WOW! Marrok has only been here a few days and yet is already establishing his routine of checking out the windows and giving an alert bark or two if any person or vehicle approaches too close. He doesn't freak and bark wildly, just a couple of warning barks then he looks to my husband and I like "okay come check this out and let me know if you see a problem here". LOL In only a day he figured out the sound of our car and does not bark any longer when that specific car pulls into the driveway. Any other car and they get a big bark though.

On walks he's doing quite well. He does need a bit of tuning up on his sit and stay commands but that's fine. His previous owners just had a baby and the lady was honest in saying she had not been giving him as much time or work as he really needs. I'm currently looking for a Mastiff club in the area to help me with any issues I might have training wise with him. So far though this dog is about as perfect as they come and has moved so seamlessly into our family it's like he's been here years instead of just a matter of days.

Okay so enough babbling but hey I figure you are all in love with your Mastiffs so I'm not coming off as too goofy :razzberry:(I hope).

Welcome! Marrock's a handsome fella :)

Nothing quite like a Mastiff to make you feel quite safe, lol. My Fila grrrl put out the back bedroom window going after a prowler :D I frequently walk her in the wee hours without a single worry.
