Grated cheese maybe?
Slight concern about the dairy/digestive upset issues? Or the potential that she'll just lick the cheese off LOL
OH!! And peanut butter!! I've tried that too!!
Grated cheese maybe?
I have gone back and forth on how to say this and not come across like a b*tch but I can’t so I will just say it and you can call me what you want.
I understand you took this girl on with very little history and have potentially taken on more than expected with her and don't get me wrong I am glad that you rescued her, but my concern is that your biggest worry is the cost of a sonogram/Xray to even check and see if she is pregnant. As you said you have no idea when she was in heat but you know she was with the male on Aug 20[SUP]th[/SUP], so lets say that is roughly the day that she was bred just in case. Then you are looking at her potentially dropping puppies any day to having several weeks before having to worry about it but I would think that knowing and being able to be prepared would be my first priority after I suspect that she was bred appearing pregnant can also happen when it is a false pregnancy.
I do understand that you are familiar with the whelping of dogs, and for the most part a dog is a dog is a dog but if something goes wrong, it is no longer a dog is a dog is a dog it is a mastiff that will cost possibly $3000 for a c-section, not to mention the after care for the puppies and dame. Mastiffs are big dogs that have big puppies, often times big puppies that can’t be passed naturally. So quibbling about the price of an Xray or Sonogram now that would allow you to be prepared or to breath easier knowing she isn’t pregnant so you know whether you need to get stuff together for pups just seems like common sense.
Actually we have already put a whelping kit together and have a whelping area prepared as well. We are prepared as if she can drop even 1-2 at any time without ever showing fully. As far as the C-section possibility, I am aware of the chance and I do have an emergency fund for my pets and while it won't cover the entire C-section, it will at least be enough that I'll only have to come up with a couple hundred more, which I will make happen if it comes to that but I'm not made of money. I am hoping to get a more definitive answer, not to prepare, but because it's driving me bonkers. I'm excited and nervous at the same time but ready even if she goes into labor now. So, to me, and because of my views on X-Rays being more of a luxury rather than a need, I'd prefer to save for anything her or her potential puppies may need in the future.
I understand your concern and don't see you as a b**** at all, you just don't know me from Eve and most people that talk about "wasting money" this much probably don't have the ability to be financially responsible for something like this or to even know what exactly is coming down the line. So I appreciate the concern.
