Puppy Feeding Question ... Before Bedtime?

My point of what I'm saying is simple. If you want to feed 2 times a day, great. 3 times great. It's not the number of times you feed a dog it's the amount of calories a day you are feeding a dog/puppy. And this is all assuming the dog/pup is in good/normal health and not on some restricted/modified diet.

Haha, sorry but you really didn't say that. It may be what you meant, but it's not what you said and all we have to go by on an internet forum is what you actually type. Unfortunately the Force is not with me yet and I can't read your mind. Not that my opinion is such an important thing, but I do agree completely with what you've said in this last post.

i'd think the less times you fed your dog per day , the closer you'd be to the way dogs eat naturally ........ I've read when dogs gorge themselves they require less food , they digest more efficiently ...... their stomachs are adapted to be stretched to hold something like 10% of their body weight ...... we obviously feed them like we'd want to eat , maybe they've evolved to the point where they do eat like us , i'm sure raw advocates would argue against that thought . I think gorging on kibble might be a bad idea , I do know an old guy who cooks for his dogs and feeds them all they will eat every other day . I've known him a long time , and his dogs do really well ....... I do believe when your dog gets used to their stomach being empty , occasionally having an empty gut is healthy for them ........ I've always fed my dogs and weaned pups every 12hrs , on the weekends they often just eat once a day because the morning meal may not be until 9-10am , so they don't seem to miss the evening meal .... I've never seen a healthy dog that was full , aside from when they got a bag of dog food and ate until they were so bloated it was actually scary to see .........

"Putting me in my place" is me saying, what you said made me realize that I gave my advice without being totally clear...especially to a new member who may not know how I come off at times...and I appreciate it.

Different dogs need different aproaches. If your dog is doing well on one meal a day, it is fine. I feel that mine does better if he has a meal later in the evening. Everybody needs to find what works best, both for themselves and their dogs.

Alright ... I have an update!

Skye has been holding it through the night till about 7 - 7:30am every day. She never seems to finish her dinner in 1 sitting, so we have allowed her to go back all the way up until about 8-9pm to finish, and because she is doing so well at holding it all night long, we also allow her to get some "monitored" water at about 8-9pm. She seems to be doing great with this, so we are sticking to it :)

Thanks for all the advice guys & gals!
