Puppy Pack Info/Supplies

Okay so I am always adding and taking stuff away depending on what has changed and what I found works and what doesn't so thought I would ask some of you what you think would be useful in a puppy pack that you would receive from your breeder. It can be articles, supplies, anything that that you can think of.

We hardly got anything from our breeder, a bag of food and the puppy and her papers and that was it. I even brought her baby blanket with me when I collected her and rubbed it all over her mummy to take home her scent. I would say anything more than that would be a bonus!

Vitamins, my breeder sent me with a months worth and that was a life saver because it took me awhile to find the right ones for him. I also really love the photo copies of mom and dad's pedigrees and the photo's of mom and dad with hank. It's nice to have those ties for him.

what do you normally include?

Collar
Some of the food they are eating (usually enough for a week)
Copy of their pedigree
Vaccine/checkup book
Microchip info
training articles (NILF, Crate training, Starting obedience) - possibly too many of these as I read a lot and when I do I print it to add so have to go through this stuff

that is what I remember off the top of my head but I think there might have been a couple more things on there.

Moo wasnt vaccinated when we picked her up as part of the contract is we had to take her to the vet to be checked within 72 hours, which I thought was a good idea. Also what one vet uses another may not and you have to start from scratch anyway. Oh we did get a copy of the sire and dams hips and elbows in our paperwork pack as well as a hints and tips sheet about the TM. So I guess we didnt come away with nothing.

Yea, we had to add on some vaccines. He had his first set but our vet wanted a one for bordetella as well. I think there was something else. So now he has two sets of shot records. I was hoping for one booklet to make it easier, but it is what it is.

A soft toy or blanket thats been in with the litter/mom for several days prior for the puppy owner to take home for the pup. Apollo's breeder did that, and it was his FAVORITE toy for a very extended period of time afterwards (like a year, seriously).

(not going to start in on vaccines, you all ought to know my opinions on that anyway by now lol)

My breeder had me send a shirt that I had slept in when he was two weeks old. She rubbed it on Mom and had him sleep and cuddle with it. I got the shirt back when I picked him up and he had a mix of our scents that was familiar. It made for an easy first over night.

Junior came with his paperwork in a nice folder, a father's day card for me (it was fathers day), a cut off of moms blanket, some food and soiled newspaper in his kennel (he was shipped). Forgot to mention the vaccination record was in there too.

Anything in the puppy pack would be awesome! I think you have a great package already. I got her papers, vet records, some food and a towel that smelled like her mom. And a lot of tears from the breeders daughter :( Dakota was her favorite puppy. I assume you do include a copy of the contract and your contact information. Do you include articles on bloat, spaying/neutering information, or helpful websites to visit? A few pictures of their first few weeks would be neat but that is going above and beyond.

I have yet to breed a litter, but have 85 pages of articles and info I have written for new puppy buyers. I refuse to call it a book yet, LOL. Might be overkill. I also have a trifold brochure type thing that I will record each puppes birth weight and weekly weight with room for them to keep the records after they have ownership of the dog, same with the vaccination record and training class record. Each section for each type of record has a few 'tips', like the weight record has a picture illustrating how to score your dogs body condition to prevent obesity. The training record section reminds them that they agreed in their contract to take the puppy to at least one obedience class prior to the dog turning 6 months. A would think a picture pedigree would be nice too along with copies of all of the parents health testing or the summary from OFFA.org on each parent.

that is what I remember off the top of my head but I think there might have been a couple more things on there.

All the above, plus my breeder included copies of the EKGs she had done on my boy as a pup (she was a vet so she checked all the pups), and also included a cd with photos of the puppies from birth to 8 weeks - which was really nice.

A towel or small cloth with mom and littermates' scent on it would be good...I normally bring my own towel to rub on momma and puppies to take home with my baby so they have familiar scent.

She put everything together in a really nice binder.

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff...I'll have to dig it out and see what all was in it.
