Questions about my new puppy!

Not sure about the leg shaking, my first EM would do this with her back legs on occasion but it wasn't until she was after 5 years old. Do you have a vet visit coming up? I would suggest maybe asking the vet about it

Ive hears aome say the shaking is related to pano....Sully also had this and concernes I calles my breeder and vet. They both said it was commin in giants and to keep an eye on it, it only lasted a week or 2.

I took him to the orthopedic surgeon last Friday and he said he is knuckling and it's the weekness of the knuckle causing it to shake. I hate that it's doing it but he said to limit the food to 3 meals at 3/4 cup a meal.

I have read a ton on it and know people keep saying its to much protein then others say it's to much calcium. I believe it is the calcium that is to high. The thing is I hate limiting his food because he is underweight already at 9 weeks and only 19 pounds.

I am taking him back to the vet this week for another checkup and to discuss the best nutritional options. He has assured me that he will grow out of this. I see that the Great Dane lady is selling a product that is $145 but she is saying keep calcium higher and protein lower. I don't think that is correct off my research.

Most everything I am reading says that he will grow out of it.

I alwats found the great dane lady suggeated appropriate calcium phos ratios. You cant tell "underweight" by a number, from the pic posted he looks the right weight for hia size/frame. Sully has grown into a moose and we have always fed him less than what others were feeding... So a limited diet.is not a bad thing, eapecially if it will solve the other issues. I also believe that protein is.not the culprit, but when I had Sully on kibble tries to find one with appropriate.calcium phos ratios and a moderate amount of protein :) good luck with your pup!

I agree that seems to be the issue. Right now the food we are giving him calcium 1.2 minimum and phosphorus is 1.0 minimum. I want to change to a higher quality food if the vet says its ok to switch on Friday or wait till he hits 3 months old exactly. I want to right now feed him the kibble like the doctor has said but then the last meal of the day do only no calcium food for one meal. I think that would work well. That way since the current food is a little higher than I want for two meals that third one would have none and balance him out till we change to new food.image.jpg

As you can see to skinny in that picture. This is a picture of his right leg that is acting bad. This is the way he sits and sometimes walks.image.jpgimage.jpg

Do you have another dog that he plays with? We also have a boxer mix who loves to play (sometimes pretty hard) and even though she is smaller, the vigorous play can be hard on or EM. He came in limping the other day and we got freaked out, but he was fine after a couple days. I would say to make sure that he is not doing any jumping off of anything (including a high step to go outside?) and also give ample time to stretch and warm up his muscles when he wakes up before playing ect.... We are new to this breed also, so these are just some things we have noticed.:)
