Haven't been on lately... its spring break here this week and I have been busy before that as well...
Took cinder into the vet last week and she weighed in at 47 lbs... she turned 20 weeks sat (i dont know how to put it... 20 weeks, but she was born halloween so does that mean 5 months on March 31? I have 4 kids and don't know this... lol)
Last week we also picked up an '08 suburban!! It killed both of us 6 yrs ago when we caved and bought a mini van... but with 4 kids, it was practical... when cinder upped her kennel size (she will need another one soon) we knew if we were gonna travel any distance with her, we were gonna need something bigger.
The mini van is still here for everyday driving and taxi'ing, but this momma isn't gonna lie, I LOVE the new wheels!!! The kids do too... they like the extra space!!
Cinder hasn't had anymore sick issues, and I'm pretty convinced it was the overload of shots and not her raw food.
We made a trip back to our hometown this past weekend, and cinder's friend Kiya was a bit nervous with her friends new size... LOL... Cinder wanted to play, but Kiya just didn't know what to think. About Saturday night they found a happy medium. Kiya realized if she stayed under cinder's long legs, cinder wouldn't lay on her, and a fun time was had by the both of them!!
Kiya has gotten a sister recently. Tansy is a tiny little black ball of fur. A teddy bear is what the breed is called. For such a small dog, she sure has a lot of spunk!! It was so fun to see her and cinder interact. Tansy was not frightened of Cinder's size at all, despite the fact cinder could have flattened her with her paw!!
Tansy was made to stay on the couch (wouldn't really jump down yet... she is like 2 lbs) while cinder and Kiya were horsing around. Tansy voiced her displeasure of being left out.. when things calmed down, Tansy decided to do hot laps around a chair in the living room. Chaos insued as cinder decided she didn't want to leave her new friend out of play. Cinder was trying to get her, but that tiny ball of fur was too quick!! Once that round of chaos was over, they both decided craig was the pillow to lay on!!
We took cinder over to another family's house for a meet and greet with their dog chloe. Chloe is a 7 yr old white German shepard. Super awesome dog!! She loves other dogs, is an excellent protector of the kids, and just awesome in general. We thought it would be a good opportunity to let Cinder play with a dog more suited to her size. Got cinder out, had both dogs on leashes in the front yard a safe distance away from each other... slowly started to let them introduce themselves, and cinder wasn't having it. She started howling and pulling away as if chloe was gonna eat her!! Chloe listened very well (as she always does) and kept her distance. Poor chloe just sat there looking at cinder and didnt know what to think of her behavior. You could tell chloe was excited and wanted to play, but cinder just howled. Craig tried to calm her and she peed... (I really don't know how she didn't get his shoes)
We took them both in their backyard (fenced in) and let them both off their leashes. Chloe kept her distanced and focused on playing with her Frisbee and the kids. Cinder eventually got up enough courage to get more than 5 ft from craig and I. But she mostly just stuck to wondering around the yard, away from chloe.
We didnt force the issue, and just let them wander. Cinder would watch chloe and if she seemed to get too close in her play with the kids, cinder would make a beeline to craig or I and "hide" until she decided chloe wasn't going to get any closer. It was a bit funny to watch because as big as cinder is... she was such a big, scared goober. We will continue to work on cinder's confidence and socialization. And I will try to update more!!!
