Craigs grandpa passed away last monday evening.... I was up to my ears in fresh produce for canning season... (250 pounds of tomatoes, 100 of cucumbers, 15 dozen ears of corn, and a misc pile of other stuff!!!)
All of last week was a blur... craig trying to corrdinate everything with family, me trying to get stuff canned before it rotted in my kitchen while trying to take care of kids and animals and still help craig through this difficult time...
Cinder could sense his sorrow and was good about cuddles in the evening after the kids went to bed...
Cinder was also very tolerant friday evening when she had an extended stay in the kennel at home while we attended the visitaion (she doesn't usually stay in the kennel for hours unless it's at night)
Saturday morning was the funeral and we left around 8:30 and I wasnt able to get back home until around 3:30... she was super happy to see me!!! We anticipated being at craigs grandma's for the majority of the night as the extended family gathered after the service..so I grabbed cinder's tie out, her leash, and her water bowl... loaded her up.. and off we went back to his grandma's...
His grandparents live out in the country down a gravel road... they have a handful of acres and their immediate mowed yard is about an acre at most...
Once I got out there with cinder craigs brother brian opened the back of the suburban (I was carrying my son as he decided to take a nap 15 mins before arriving) and let Cinder run out without her leash or tie out... I was a bit concerned with this move... Cinder has always been on a leash since getting bigger... and we went to using a tie out since she liked to visit the neighbors patio across the alley from our backyard at night (she started out not straying too far when taking her out at night because she was scared of the dark places past our deck lights...lol)
But despite my concern, cinder showed everyone her best behavior!!! The only complaint anyone (and everyone...lol) had for the whole night was her slinger deposits on dress clothes!! LMAO!!
I did put her leash on but didn't have a hold of it... she explored the yard at her leisure... and had a blast with all the kids running around... she listened when she was told to sit and stay.. and watched in anticipation as the kids made s'mores around the fire pit...
She seemed to know it was a time of grieving, and didn't bother anyone who didn't want affection. She already knew some of the many people gathered (craigs brother, dad, step mom, ect) and when the ones she knew had their breakdown moments, she was right by their side... and she stood there... until they noticed her.... and when they did notice she was standing there, they would pet her and they seemed to welcome the opportunity to just have their moment with her...
I know she didn't fully understand what was going on, but at her young 9.5 months of age she seemed to know just what each person needed. She didn't make a spectical of herself, or cause anyone any unneeded uncomfortable attention.
I'm beyond proud of her!!!
