Raw fed dogs grow slower

Hey, I'm curious as to what some of our members think about this. I've been feeding Stone and Mason raw since I've brought them home at 9 weeks. Found some of the siblings online and most of them were kibble fed with Stone being the only raw fed so far. I mentioned Stone's size and someone stated its because I'm feeding raw???? Apparently raw makes dogs grow slower? This is not the first time I heard about this but I'm skeptical of the credibility.

I have some confusion with this......as Mason has been raw fed since I brought him home at 9 weeks and is growing at the same rate with his siblings.

Hmmm, slower than a dog fed a diet to high in calcium maybe.

Apollo's been raw fed since nine months or so and he's average for his litter. Arty's been raw fed since 7 weeks and is dead on to where his sibs and relations are.

Yeah, Ruth interesting tidbit thought you would have more info on it. I found some small bits but it seems to be rumor mill. *shrugs*

I don't know that anyone's done a study on it..... But my own experience says no lol

I'd say Stones issues have more to do with his other issues, anxiety and the like, possibly throwing off his digestion....

This thread^^^ was from a raw food forum I check into every now and then...

Yeah, I have heard the same thing...and it makes sense. Slow and steady trumps fast and explosive, IMO. Especially with the giants.

Makes sense to me too.

LOL, I did read the thread while researching

LOL, well it was worth a re-read for me anyway, 'cause I was curious, too.

Mateo's growth has been pretty steady, and at 2 years, 3 months, he has pretty much plateaued. Barring another growth spurt, of course. He's been raw fed since 8.5 weeks.

Of course, I don't have a lot to compare him to in terms of DDBs...

Yeah that makes it somewhat "difficult" :/

When the exception of Stone's trick leg he's been pretty normal

Jade is RAW fed and did grow slower than her other litter-mates but she had bursts of growth that were scary. She has caught up to her litter and is a bit more stocky and muscular than them. Slow grow is good and more natural than all that hormone laced kibble with too much protein and calcium.

DD, do you think that some of his behavioral problems and slow growth has anything to do with getting into the cleaning solution when he was a pup?

AB I've thought about that quite a few times and certainly haven't ruled it out. Without serious testing its hard to say.

Despite what this may seem like I'm not concerned with this height he's still a large dog, LOL. I was just curious about the statement made.

So yeah any future dog owners don't take a pointer from me and allow your pup to drink bleach water, curse my cleaning ways

Yeah....I probably ruined him for life, and there's no one I can blame but myself for the negligence.......I feel bad for that.

I just do wonder about other things with him given the reaction of his brother before he was re homed.

We have all had our dogs get into things they are not supposed to. I know mine have. It could be a clue though as to what is going on with Stone and why he needs so much patience and love. :)

Neither of mine will go near bleach water for cleaning, so I'd certinally not have thought he'd drink it. Arty DID eat lye soap, but it was scented and contained coconut oil, so it might have actually been appealing!
