Raw feeding guide

Hi all I've been using this feeding guide and its is actually very handy and quite accurate, so I thought I would post a copy for anyone interested. P.s I am using the higher side recommendation. e.g 7.5 to 8.5% , I've been using 8.5%

I just usually recommend a percentage of the estimated adult weight, usually 2.5% to start with, but most pups end up closer to 3.5% of their estimated adult weight. That way you're not constantly weighing in ;)

Good point, but in hanks case that would be 4.125lbs (2.5%) up to 5.775lbs (3.5%) of raw food per day, which is just silly isn't it? Currently he is 10 weeks old & 24lbs and he eats 2.0 lbs per day and is looking good not overweight or underweight.

But like Hank DDB is saying that might be heavy for some dogs. Jade should be eating 3.5lb a day but eats 2lb most times.

Thats why its adjusted per dog, cause each dog is individual, but do be prepared to increase that, 2lbs isn't much when he starts hitting growth spurts! You'll likely need to feed it in three meals a day, but thats true of kibble fed pups too.

Apollo does too, unless he's hitting another growth spurt he eats less, but thats not unusual either once they get past the huge puppy growth.

I feed Titan 2-2.5 lbs of meat per day. His weight is 120 lbs and I want to maintain that weight for him.

I had Hank at the vets today for his vacination and check up, all is very good, the vet is extremely happy with Hanks health and weight, Yippy its good to get the vets approval. Ok hank is going through a growth spurt as we speak , wow dam! Anyway yesturday I increased his daily portion by 1/2 a pound. Ill see how he goes on this and increase in 1/2lb increments until he is satisfied. He is very smart he lets me know when he needs more food. And I just keep an eye on his appearance to be sure he is not underfed or over fed. Thanks everyone for your help

Yay! That he's doing good!

I swear Apollo's intake almost doubles when he gets a growth spurt. Thankfully now that he's 2 thats not happening as much any more....

I'm still working this raw feeding out But I'm getting there. Dry food is so much easier all my previous dogs where dry fed and they all grazed, so making sure I gave enough was never a issue. But now seeing the light on raw I will never fed a dog dry again. So I will just keep learning as I go. Guess I got it pretty well worked out based on my vets opinion of Hank.

I'm following Wendy Vollard's book, "Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" and feeding double her weight, divided into 4 meal (mines a 7wk old pup) until 7 months of age. Then following the diet per her reg weight from then onward.

Depending on which breed your pup is your 6-7 month old pup could weigh as much as 80lbs......I don't think you REALLY want your pup eating 160lbs of food a day.....heck, Apollo was 25lbs at 10 weeks, I sure as heck wasn't going to feed him 50lbs of food.....I've not read that book, but you might want to re-consider that plan.

I goofed while explaining that, sorry. Elsa's about 20lbs, so I feed her according to the guidelines in the book for a 40lb dog. There are 2 meals given, a breakfast one and a dinner one (which has the meat). Elsa's meat amount for the day is currently around 12oz.

This is her diet at the moment:

Breakfast meal (I divide into 2, for am and noon feeding)

3oz (dry weight) of grain (oatmeal, buckwheat, millet or brown rice)
2 tsp safflower oil
200 mg Vit C (calcium ascorbate)
1 egg, boiled 5 min incl shell, 4x a wk
2 tsp blackstrap molasses
200 (IU) of vitamin E
50 mg vit B Complex
1/2 c yogurt
1/2 c vegetables

Dinner (split late afternoon and pm meal)

12 oz meat days 1-5
14 oz cottage cheese on day 6
1 tsp cod liver oil
1/2 tsp kelp
1.5 garlic capsule (325 mg)
2 tsp wheat germ
2 T dry herbs, (this week its watercress and rosemary)
2.5 oz liver days 1-5
200 mg vit C
1 T apple cider vinegar
1 tsp brewers yeast
2.5 oz bonemeal
3 T wheat bran
2 T fruit on alternate days (this week banana or blueberries)

Day 7 for adult dogs is a morning meal of :
2.3 oz grain
50 mg vit B Complex
4 tsp honey
200 mg Vit C
1 c yogurt

adult dogs fast in the evening. The honey and yogurt help cleanse the intestines in preparation for thestart of the new week, since in the wild, dogs didn't eat every single day. PUPPIES don't fast however on this diet.

bones are given 3x a week

is the meat bone in or boneless?

I have to add that I'll stick to Prey Model Raw, WAY less complicated.....

The meat is boneless. I don't mind the fuss, yeah its complicated but I love being able to control what all goes in, they do sell a redi-made variety of it but was too pricey for me. Ok I confess, lol I'm a chef and get a kick out of preparing their food too.
