Thank you, Dawn. Yeah, my little guy is a real mess right now and I feel terrible for him.
Jiggers was like that after Kryten's surgery. The difference was Kryten was awake and 24 hrs post op before Jiggers saw him again. I tried to keep them separated by the xpen but both seemed calmer once I let them sleep touching. Hopefully Magnum will calm down once he realizes Ruger is OK now.

I just spoke with kris, ruger is still sleeping. Magnum however is a basket case, he's worried about ruger (as they have never been separated ). Let's hope she can get magnum calmed down and get a little sleep.

He is up and moving a bit and has drank some water and been out to the bathroom. Still pretty tired and in pain but I just gave him a pain pill and got him settled back in to rest. It was a long and heart breaking night. Ruger would occasionally cry out in his sleep and it just broke my heart. Magnum barely slept at all and kept vigil through the barrier worrying about his brother. Now that he has been able to get close to Ruger, Magnum has calmed down and they are both resting near one another now. I want to thank everyone for your concern. It really means a lot to me.

So relieved to hear Ruger is home. Poor Magnum. I know you probably know this, Kris, but I would seriously consider starting to get the boys used to being apart a little. I learned the hard way that if something unexpected happens, the dog that is left behind suffers terribly. Al and Leo were always together. When Leo had a cardiac event and died, it ruined Al. I had to medicate him because he walked the house crying for weeks. I did know that Al needed a friend and that's why I had planned to bring another pup in. Leo had health issues and I knew he would be leaving us. It just so happened that Leo passed two days before I brought the other pup home. What I didn't expect was that all Al wanted or needed was Leo. He never really has bonded to Oliver and his anxiety, which was tolerable before, went through the roof after his brother was gone. Again, I'm sure you've thought of these things, but I had to mention it. I know how much harder it made it for everyone, watching Al try to adjust to life without Leo. I couldn't grieve myself because Al was so messed up.

Anyway, I hope today finds things much brighter for you all.

Thank you, boxer girl. I'm definitely giving it more thought now since although I knew Magnum counted on Ruger a lot I had no idea just how much until this happened. It's just me and them so we just do everything together. I walk them both nightly together, they always went to work with me, we all sleep together. The only time they have ever been apart is when Ruger goes to his annual vet appointments and Magnum did alright with that but after we were gone so long (he had a sitter so he wasn't alone) and then he couldn't get to him after we got back made it very clear just how much he depends on Ruger.

That was us too. And Leo died in the middle of the floor. Al was very confused. Some people say that letting the other dog see their friend helps, but it was very confusing for Al. Being a boxer, he poked him and then backed off to the middle of the room and started whining. He didn't stop for a long time. Not recognizing his dependency on his brother is probably the biggest mistake I ever made with him. It was brutal. I won't ever make the same mistake again.

Thanks, Kris (that's so funny to type, my name is Kris too). It was quick for Leo. He passed with his head on my lap and his favorite girl whispering in his ear, so not a bad way to go. I just don't ever want anyone to watch their remaining dog grieve like Al did. Some dogs handle it fine. Others not so much. I know we have a few people here raising two pups together, so I figure my story might save some heartache for someone else. Sorry for the hijack. Back to Ruger!

Nothing to be sorry for at all. It's a great discussion and I appreciate you sharing that with me. I had no idea that your name was Kris. :)

Poor babies. Shouldn't be too long before everything is back to normal.

I hadn't thought of it like that Boxergirl. Maybe Hanks SA isn't necessarily with me (i'm sure it's a factor) but both times he broke the window he was separated from Roxy(and of course her being in heat didn't help). Since the day we brought her home they've been connected at the hip. If Hank gets up and moves to a diff room Roxy follows and lays next to him. Most of my photos are of them sleeping in tandem. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh My God Kris! I just saw this. I am so sorry that all of this has happened! I am relieved to hear that he made it through surgery and is home and on the mend. Hopefully Magnum will settle down soon. I know how scary it is when they are sick and you have no answers, I am sending you prayers for a quick recovery for Ruger!

Thank you so much everyone! Update on Ruger: He is doing really well and eating a decent amount of the chicken and rice. Last night was tough. He did well all day but about 7pm he was in quite a bit of pain and was having trouble being able to lay down. He is on a inflammatory but it doesn't seem to be working after a certain time so I will be picking up some pain meds at lunch time for him. Otherwise, I think he is healing well and doing good.Magnum is just as happy as can be now that Ruger isn't away from him. I really appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers.

After Sage and Bella had their spay and stomach tacking, Sage was in much more pain and we had to get an extra pain med for her. She would just pace, and I would see her try to sit down and stand right back up. That lasted for almost 10 days where she would lay down by putting her chest down first and then let her bum go down.

I agree with the co-dependency on the other dog as I'm raising pups together. We do take them on walks separately and they often go out in the back yard separately and are separated in the morning. I will have to watch out though because Sage is much more dependent on Bella than the opposite. She was actually laying on Bella last night and fell asleep.

For anyone that is wondering, Ruger Is healing really well and his appetite is coming back with a vengeance. Monday when he was up and moving after the surgery he was able to go to the bathroom finally but even though he was obviously feeling much better I was worried because Tuesday and Wednesday he didn't go to the bathroom but this morning it appears that we are back on track and I am so relieved. Friday he is allowed to come off his chicken and rice diet which he is very much looking forward to. He has his energy level back which is good except that now it is more difficult to keep him calm for his stitches. All in all it looks like we are almost through this scary ordeal. I want thank everyone again for all of the thoughts and prayers and checking up on him. It means a lot to me.
