So after spending 9 months on a waiting list, I finally received notice that I will be receiving a brindle female from this falls pups. She is currently 3 weeks old and I will be able to pick her up towards the end of December. I am very excited and have a few questions for all you mastiff owners.
I have had plenty of training and taking care of dogs experience but most of my questionsI relate to the massive size of mastiffs.
I have started to look for a crate and found some really good deals on ebay. Has anyone bought a carate off ebay that wasn't a midwest or a known brand? Not sure if a 80 dollar, 54" cage will be quality. If anyone one knows of a good crate please let me know.
I am also very curious about the brand of food everyone uses or used for their dog from a puppy and as a full grown dog. Also any other advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading, Alex.

What is an American mastiff?
What makes up an American mastiff and any pictures?
I'm really curious.
As a side note my wife talked to someone who is getting an Australian Mastiff all white in color and I couldnt find any of those either just Mastiffs bred in Australia.

Its a cross between an English Mastiff and an Anaolian Shepard (i don't know the exact percentage, its less than 1/3rd). They have a longer muzzle than EM's.

The fawn colored one isn't mine, but it belongs to someone I know. The brindle puppy is mine :)

The Flying W Farms American Mastiff (TM) was developed over many years of selective breeding by Fredericka Wagner of Flying W Farms, Piketon, Ohio. The goal was to develop a dog that had the size, temperament, disposition, and the appearance of the Mastiff, but with fewer health problems, and much dryer mouth than other mastiff breeds. This was accomplished by crossing the English Mastiff with the Anatolian Mastiff during the early development of the breed.*

Thanks for the american mastiff forum I will check it out for sure.

I do not have any pictures yet but will post some as soon as I do. I think I have come to like the name Lilly.

Congrats on your new baby!

For what its worth both wire crates I've bought have been "Best Pet" brand and they've held up well.

you can also try craigslist for crates.

Did you do a search on the brand that you found on Ebay? I am sure that you can find reviews on them.

For that price its kinda hard to go wrong. And if it ends up beeing crap and coming apart on you a couple months down the road you're not out much.

I got the Best Pet ones on Amazon, and they're definetly cheaper than the Midwest ones, but not htat cheap.
