Welcome aboard~ May I ask why you are picking up the puppy so early at 6 weeks? It is best to leave puppies with their mom and siblings until 8-10 weeks.

To be honest musicdeb, only because that's when the breeder told us we could pick him up. I'll look into it and see if we should wait longer. Thanks

I almost said the same thing Deb did, but bit my tongue. People pick up puppies at six weeks and don't have issues, but most "experts" say 7.5 to 8 weeks is about the earliest you want to take a puppy away from it's mom and siblings. The puppy learns a lot about being a dog from it's littermates and mom in those early weeks. It learns how hard it can bite, how to read other dogs, how not to poop where you eat and play. In some states it's actually against the law for a licensed breeder to allow a puppy to be taken home before eight weeks.

It's your pup and you can pick it up anytime you want and it won't bother me at all, I'm just recommending doing a little research on the subject. The puppy will have zero problems bonding with you and your family if you wait until eight weeks.

Good luck!

I am going to check with the breeder. I could be wrong about the age. I know she said we couldn't pick him up before Feb 1.

Welcome to the forum. They learn so much from litter mates in those extra two weeks. :) Do you have any pics you can share?

The hardest part is when the breeder says you "can" pick them up at 6 weeks, but you should wait 2 MORE WEEKS for the puppy to learn extra good stuff from the mom and litter-mates (i.e. bite inhibition is a big one). 2 Weeks is a LONG time to wait for a puppy!!!

Brindles are definitely growing on me. I wanted a fawn at first but my wife and daughter really wanted a brindle.

Yes, Samson and we will call him Sam.

I have a question for a mod or regular. Will I always have to type the image verification text before each post and I continue to get a band at the top of each page with this text?

The post count updater on this site is really weird. Sooner or later it'll realize you've posted and stop making you jump through the hoops.
