Tessa's home!

We brought Tessa home this weekend, and are so in love with this sweet girl already. She is very mellow and laid back, loves the kids, and is doing great with our other dog. She drinks like a camel, but hasn't been eating much, which I know is normal. She is doing great with peeing outside, but poops every time I put her in the crate (within a few minutes). This morning, she had JUST gone poop outside, so I put her in the crate to bring the kids to school (maybe 15 minutes gone) and came back to a poopacolypse. She doesn't have diarrhea, but she manages to cover every square inch of herself in it. She's had 4 baths so far :) Any suggestions other than giving her time?
Vet appt tomorrow to check her weight and overall health.

Do you leash her when you take her out to potty? Do not allow her to play when outside to go potty. Tell her to go potty and when she does, do the potty dance. Seriously, the potty dance works. Sing to her in high pitched voice and do a little dance.

Pups can take up to 25 minutes to do their business.

Consistency and patience are key to successful training.

Yep, she is on a leash. She is doing great with going pee immediately. She hasn't pooped in the house at all, just waits til she's in the crate :) I think it stresses her out being in there. We are giving her a lot of time outside, but it's really cold and icy out, so she just sits by my feet and cries. I'm not expecting her to get the hang of it right away, but it's hard cleaning the poop out of all the bars of the crate, lol!

Oh, also, last night, she seems to have reopened the tip of her tail. It looked great on Sat night, then last night it looked like just the top layer is skin cracked a little and was oozing just a tiny bit of clear fluid. I tried to take a picture, but she is so wiggly! It looks a little bit red today, and she keeps trying to lick it. Other than that, she seems fine. It doesnt hurt her, she's fine with me touching her tail. She is full of energy today!image.jpg

Apply some antibacterial cream to her tail so an infection does set in.

Give her time, she will get the hang of potty training. :)

Tessa is doing really well so far! Once she figured out she shouldn't poop in her crate that is :) She is consistently going outside every time we take her out, and her appetite is definitely back. She is learning the difference between how to play with our other dog vs how to play with us, and she very rarely nips. She seems completely indifferent to praise/treats though. She just looks at me like I'm crazy when I praise her, lol.

She looks a lot like my Presa Tokken 8 weeks. So sweet. We also have an 8 month old Presa named Nallah. Beautiful Corso!

Thanks, all! We sure do love her! She is coming along well with housebreaking, barely ever nips, and is sleeping much better in her crate at night (Hallelujah!). She has learned her name, "sit", and will come when called. She has gained 2 1/2 lbs pounds in the last week! image.jpgimage.jpg

Tessa continues to do well. She seems to have bonded to me very well, and listens to me almost 100% of the time. We are working on her listening to my husband and kids too :) She has come a long way with potty training, now that she has learned to ring the bell to go outside. She still cries A LOT at night in her crate...we are going to move our other dog to a different room, because they egg each other on. Puppy class starts tomorrow night!image.jpg
