Tubarao is now almost 12 months old. He is now no longer okay with strangers. He has growled at a few people recently so I used this as the perfect opportunity to get an old friend of mine to become fila bait :insert evil laugh: so for course we did not push him hard nor was this a "true" temperament test but wow tubarao has it in him, my mind is officially blown. Since he is my first fila and my first experience with this in person it was amazing. Its one thing to watch temp tests online but to experience a fila in person is nothing short of amazing. So the verdict is that tubarao did not act out of fear he was acting very confident and stood his ground. He never resorted to going back behind me or avoiding the situation. He stared down the threat and then ended up rushing him and pulling me a good 10 feet to do so. So a play by play of events
I got tubarao out of car. He walked with me across the street where threat stood. We approached threat until we were about 50 feet from him. Tubarao saw him but wasn't concerned initially. Threat began approaching us and tubarao started growling as threat got closer growl got deeper. He never barked. Stood staring at threat. This friend/threat is not a trained agitator so this was just for fun. He started shuffling his feet from side to side and tubarao started trying to get him. Threat grabbed a stick and started swatting at him with it and tubarao swiftly snapped that stick. He grabbed another stick and started swinging it at me and that is when tubarao lost it and let out a noise only a beast would make and pulled me forward in a attempt to grab him. I am very pleased with his reaction. This was not his home turf but rather a location that he had never been and there were other strange dogs barking and lots of other distractions such as people and cars. He never floundered and held his ground right at my side when he wasn't interacting with the threat. Overall I am pleased and proud of my boy. He is still young and just now coming into his temperament but I'm glad that all the socializing I did as a pup has seemed to help him stay level headed. More to come from tubarao in the near future
