  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Ugh....

Could be the 1st road trip of the new year.
One of those things you know you shouldn't do, but it feels so good you can't resist.
What a feeling, tooling down the highway with a baby Fila by your side, the stereo blaring "Born to be Wild"
What the hell it's just 1 more dog!!

hahaha, I wish! but the 2 breeders the sire and dam came from are shit breeders and produce crappy dogs. the one(kennel) is riddled with health issues. luckily I have a wonderful breeder and excellent contacts for later on. my Maddie just turned a year and I am all puppied out!! only young adults from here on out! I fear I will have to be reminded of that sentence later, lol

Don't you just love it when people breed two dogs together, don't health screen, don't temp test, don't make sure the dam is mature enough to handle rearing a litter irregardless of how many heats she may have had, lets not bother with the simple things like researching lineage and recessive, non recessive traits and health issues. Lets just breed two dogs together because we love our girl!

Once you have 6-8 eating and crapping pups, vet bills galore, vaccinations, meds, time spent, not sleeping, etc etc.... That screening process goes straight out the window and some wonderful dad buys his little girl a cute little puppy and someone gets mauled because little Johnny is so sweet and gentle he wouldn't hurt a fly.......

I have been getting my Fila pics and info ready to send to the shelter up there and refresh my locals. I pray I am so, so wrong.

In the chance they end up at a shelter.
I would rather be proactive than have them already in
the shelter and then trying to educate them on the breed
and have to fight to save them.

sadly, some will end up in a shelter. not enough educated homes, especially around here.
also, even less educated shelter staff that do not know breeds or even behaviors for that matter.
I have been on the rescue scene for a long time and have rescued 3 Filas in my area over the years.
with those 3, only my friendship with the staff allowed for me to get the pulled by the rescue I work with.
they had a fawn logged as a redbone/mastiff mix and wanted to put him down since they said redbones
should not be that aggressive! claimed he must have really been abused, ugh. within 4 wks of being pulled
and in a Fila savvy home, he flourished.

people are going to see cute puppies, the price and the Mastiff name and run with it! the person who bred these pups claims
to educate yourself, but I would bet flash $1000 cash and the pup is yours.

I think you are right. I don't know much about this breed- but know enough to recognize the potential danger this could create. I applaud you for taking steps to let your local animal shelters know what's about to happen. On that site could you also place a free caution/warning post about that listing? I know people do those all the time on craigslist- sometimes over trivial things. It could be anonymous.

unless you inherit a kennel, every breeder had a small start...

these classifieds are not limited to the local area so potentially the buyers will be from anywhere. Who would expect someone selling puppies to not do so because they are from out of the area? and really the seller won't know anything about buyers except what they might tell one if they were asked. a local humane society where I live would ask those adopting if they had fenced yards and would not allow adoptions to those without fenced yards which seems insane when they actually kill them if not adopted in so many weeks!!
