Nope. Didn't say that. Also said in my post. Exercise is great. But many buy into the fact that exercise will create a calm dog. It does. Temporarily. I can get Solo to turn on and off and that's done through a lot of work with the mind. Duration. Impulse control. It's like meditation. It takes work but it's, in my opinion, more important than exercise alone.

Exercise can also work against you in the sense it can increase the hyper, go go go behavior. It doesn't condition the dog on how to relax, no matter how much exercise they've had. Slowing the mind and limiting arousal is huge. I don't need to "take the edge off" before putting Solo in place. He does it because we work on it daily. Anyone can do it with their dog but most don't.

You actually said exercise is temporary which would indicate it is not effective in the training plan. You mentioned how it is ineffective for calming a dog but I don't remember anywhere in this or the cited post where that concern was expressed. I believe the dog was difficult, defiant and testing the owner. You basically quoted me in disagreement but I was not saying exercise is a end all be all nor was I indicating it was an appropriate plan for teaching calm behavior. I agree, if your trying to train calm you would not bring your dog to the dog park or focus solely on exhausting them. Since that was not the issue I think regular exercise is completely appropriate as part of the overall training plan. It is annoying when someone quotes your words in disagreement when they are taking them out of context.

Ok. Yep. Exercise is great. I didn't disagree with anything you said. And I'm not in charge of how you choose to feel about me "quoting" you. You seem to be a bit sensitive to the whole thing. That explains why u chose to get annoyed. Again, my bad. Won't happen again.

You can quote me all day, I don't care. But it would be nice if your going to disagree with me or correct my opinion that you take into consideration what I am actually saying or the topic of the post. I get it, you like place.

Well, there you have it Nitrojedi, you should stop trying to exercise your dog which is helping your behavior issue, because it apparently doesn't work.

If that's the conclusion you've come to after this then that's too bad. Never once did I (or the article I posted) say exercise didn't work or shouldn't be done. All this because I quoted you and you didn't like what I had to say. That's cool. But no need to take it personal or allow it to get you all wound up. I suggest you "ignore/block" me. Solves that problem for you real quick.

i think what we call exercise is learning and mental stimulation to a dog , a bored dog is a problem dog ....... as far as place stay , sit , lay down commands , unless your with the dog , or can tell him place and go to work , that really is as "temporary" as exercise ....... most everything my dogs learn is through exercise , they know to walk on a leash without pulling , they know stop , they know stay , i can tell them which way to go on a trail , or which side of a tree to go on , they know what side of me to walk on , they get socialized with strange dogs and people , they learn to ignore distractions , learn how to act in the car , learn how to act in leaving and arriving at my our house ............. as far as problem home behavior , give them acceptable stuff to do let them know what's unacceptable and you won't have a problem , i never have , i'm not a trainer and my dogs are absolutely not the sharpest pencils in the box ...... as far as enzo , i would say taking his dog to the dog park is a lot more involved than just taking the dog to the dog park ....
