Veterinary care options (Banfield?)

I pick up my new puppy in less than 2 days, and I have a big decision to make as far as vet care. In the past i've used Banfield, but always have felt like I was being ripped off. I'm not looking for the cheapest pet care available, but I also don't like feeling like test and other things are being done to run up the cost.

What is a reasonable amount to expect to pay for all my pups vaccinations?

I know at Banfield they promote the Wellness plan, it takes care of the vaccinations, allows free office visits, and provides a few fecal exams, deworming for about $25 a month. But they are very pushy, and try to get you to buy every service, medicine, test, available.

What has your experience been like with the big chain vets? Do you think its worth it?

I have used Banfield in the past. I usually use them for the Wellness Plan for the first year and then cancel. I did have a great vet at Banfield, eventhough we did not agree all the time, she reluctantly respected my desicions on diet etc. She left Banfield and started working at a country vet, so I followed her there. I would talk to the vets and ask them questions and go with the place you feel comfortable with.

I hate Banfield! Very pushy and rude. I took Duchess in and every time I went in for the first couple of months the vet would strongly suggest I spay her. By the third month she just went ahead and scheduled a spay appointment for me. I was pissed when I got the call confirming "my" appointment. They never listened to me, I would tell them about things that agitated Duchess, like the thermometer in the but without even petting or talking to her. Duchess now hates going to the vet. I canceled and now have a local private vet, Duchess is slowly warming up to the idea of routine check ups.

No hidden fees. You pay what their website shows. I take Titan there for his 3 yr rabies and yearly heartworm test.

Cant speak for either of those, but we take our pups to Coastal Vet on Hodges and Beach. Their prices are high (wanted to charge me $398 for my CC to be spayed?!?!) , but I'm happy with them so far. If you go ask for Dr. Bissell, he was great. The other one we had was kind of a putz. ( Dr. Jacobs) There is a vet over in Riverside as well that Ive heard has more reasonable prices, I believe we will be checking them out soon.
