Wonderful woman at the dog park

Okay, maybe I am in the wrong here and normally I avoid the dog park but Daisy's sister frequents a really nice one. The owners are always right on their dogs if they do anything and I have only seen a handful of misbehaving dogs.

Tonight I figured I would stop by the dog park at the usual time her sister arrives. Daisy was having a great ol' time and all the intact males were ignoring her except for play. Anyway, after a half hour, this one dobie criss decided to mount her. I pulled him off and just shrugged my shoulders as his owner rolled off her seat and shambled over yelling at the dog. The dog did not listen so she turned to me and said, "your dog is intact isn't she?" I said, yes but it's okay, she's not in heat or close to it and I got your dog off. To point out, daisy is never mounted at the park. This was actually the first or second time. Anyway, she started yelling how I was an idiot for bringing an intact female there. I said we had been going there for a long time and never had a problem to which she started saying she had been at the dog park longer and I had to leave.

WTF! I stayed even though I had just been planning to leave. I made Daisy stay in a sit stay as she ran her fat, 400+ass after her dog. She had her friend call him and I almost started laughing when her idea if come was, "come see what mommy has."

I feel mean saying it but start walking your dog and training it instead of sitting your butt on a picnic bench as your dog ran everywhere. After she got back to the bench I could hear her swearing at me so I ran Daisy through commands as other dogs ran up to her, sniffed her (no humping even though there were 3 intact dogs sniffing her at one point), and she ignored them all as she was in working mode.

Meanwhile, her dog went and humped two more dogs. So do you think I was in the wrong and shouldn't have had her there?

Nope. She was a classic example of someone who doesn't like it when they actually have to work to make things easy. You made her life harder therefore she decided that you were in the wrong. I've actually had one woman tell me to keep Kryten away from her dog because she thought she might be in heat and didn't want her to get pregnant. This was at the off leash at a time when there was close to 30 dogs running around.

I don't think you were in the wrong at all. Our local dog parks have a rule that says no females in heat are allowed to be there. Intact is fine.

Fack that! You have just as much right to be there as every/any one else. I, for the most part, do not do dog parks but when I do go my intact dogs are behaved and under control. My main concern is not the dogs but the people that are exactly what you describe. That is their idea of exercising their dogs  Sitting around, drinking their Starbucks and talking to other dog parents while ignoring the poor behavior of their own dogs. GRRR

I don't do dog parks BECAUSE of such people, but you had every right to be there, and every right to do exactly as you did.

This. We may try the dog park here in a few weeks when they are done resodding but its much bigger than the one were used to. IF I go and that's a big if, it'll be with my husband and we will bring two dogs at most.

You were certainly NOT in the wrong!! I can't stand people that don't train their dogs and blame other people for their problems. Daisy is exactly the type of dog that should be at the dog park. She should have to keep her dog out of there because he is not well behaved and has no recall.

Glad you think I was right. My kids were siting on a picnic table and my husband was with me. She was twice the size of me (or more), several facial peircings and dressed all in black like an emu. My husband thought she was going to take a swing at me. I laughed and said it would be fun if she did. I had no doubt that I could out maneuver her and I don't think her stamina was that great. Plus I think daisy would have been on her.

The only reason I asked was because my husband was wondering if intact dogs were against the rules. There is no sign stating otherwise and I would never take a female in heat to the park.

I also won't take dogs that hump. Petey, our lab, is an ahole to other dogs and will hump them. Years if training has not corrected the problem (I think because he was used as a stud dog, he feels that is his job) so we don't take him to off leash dog parks.

Anyway, she was a treat. Normally I don't judge by appearance but she was being obnoxious so...

Oh ignore spelling and stuff, on my phone so autocorrect and that.

Our park says intact females are ok if they're not in heat, but intact males are not ok. I still take Lincoln occasionally, but I watch him like a hawk. Everyone there loves him, but I know if anything ever happened, even if Lincoln didn't start it that I'd have a hard time convincing people that the 150lb intact Mastiff wasn't the agressor. Lincoln still acts like a big scared puppy any time another dog barks at him there, so for now I don't have to worry about him even fighting back, but I'm sure that can and probably will change at some point.

the rules vary from park to park, but if there are other intact dogs there regularly I doubt you have anything to worry about.

I don't think u were in the wrong at all! People need to make their dogs mind just like u should with kids! When we take our kids or dogs places I expect them to behave! When they act a fool they get punished! I hate lazy dog owners, it's makes for unmannered dogs! I say good job u and good job daisy!

Thanks everyone. Checked the rules for the dog parks in my city and intact females are allowed in the dog park. Only stipulation is that they can't be at the park when they are in heat. You know what I did see...no aggressive dogs are allowed and that includes dogs that aggressively hump other dogs. So I guess I had just as much right to be there as she did...if not more.
