I agree to teach a command to stop them when you want them to BUT Good job, Chevy! He is growing up. I wouldn't want my dog to get hurt protecting me and I will shoot someone breaking in or meaning us harm but I am glad they are Guardians and they are willing to.

I had someone breaking into my house recently - I was on the phone with police and they told me to lock the dogs in the bedroom with us. It meant give the intruders free access to the house - but also give police access to the house and keep my dogs safe and secondly, the CC being WITH US in one room protected our butts anyway. For the record, I was alone with a nine years old daughter, at 1 a.m. .

Okay. To be completely honest, CCs scare me a bit. They present as one serious, (too serious) dog. But when I see a pic of a CC like Captain Morgan or Season's Solo, I'm all admiration. Sorry if this amounts to a thread hi-jaak. Honest question tho - is owning a CC similar to doing Parkour with nitro glycerin in your backpack? Or is their reputation as a dangerous animal overstated?

From Wikipedia the foremost source for dog breed information- "they will very rarely fight unless provoked and are typically very docile and sweet."

Nik - yep, police arrived after 20 minutes and I strongly reconsider moving to a farm as I previously intended. Considering NZ population density, if police arrives in town after 20 minutes, then in a rural remote area they'll probably join the party the next day or so.
And nope, we can't own guns... or we can't use them, which is quite the same.

Bob Felts - my CC is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever had: mom's boy, very loving and needy of love. I've seen a different side of him few times, but I am not talking about aggression: he's not aggressive, he'd basically put his body between us and the threat. Before the break in, he insisted to sleep in another room, exactly under the window that was used by intruder... I thought he was sick or something - he NEVER sleeps away from us. No idea how he was able to predict/identify the main security vulnerability of our home.

So interesting that he was hanging out in that spot. I have a friend who lives in a bad hood who has pics of her dog in potentially vulnerable spots letting them know what they'll face if try their luck. I have no idea if they work or not, she hasn't had and attempts.
