Harvey is about to round out the 8 month old mark. Today he got to play with Diogee.. go ahead sound out the name, it's kinda genius... And he's super tired. This is my first EM and having kept APBTs up till Harv I'm unsure of how much is too much.

What is everyones take on exercising their young adult EM?

Love taking our DDB to the dog park with her 6 month old Neopolitan mastiff buddy! If your dog is not too aggressive and comes when called, it can be great therapy for you and your baby.

We do a lot of walking, however my 1 yr old isn't a huge fan of the heat. Just take a lot of water with you or know where you can get it on the way.

My guidelines (not official):
One day of rest = a good bit of exercise was had.
More than one, or starts limping...= too much!

Denna has to be restricted from play at daycare because she didn't know when to stop - even with a sore leg (not sure if she pulled something, or got HER foot stepped on, or something else). She stayed home for a few weeks (only was going one day a week as it was), and we also put her on restricted daycare (extended nap plan) after that - as she also boards there, and was there a whole week not too long ago.

She did bounce right back, even when she came home limping... a good morning of rest, then she wanted to play fetch with her jolly ball all afternoon. :)

Under 1-limited walking distances, while they might like it, it can be tough on developing joints and cartlidge in the knees. As far as playing with other pups, I'd let them play until he was tired! We've had regular playdates with a neo mastiff since about 3 months of age and there is nothing like another pup to wear a pup out and provide social skills!

gday all, my suggestions would be to swim your dog, walking @ a young age is fine, but not too far, running is also to be watched as the sudden turn, stopping etc can damage young limbs, ligaments etc, My young fella, Gus swims most days, he is nearly 8 months old & has no problem swimming 1 klm behind or next to me.
