Canine vs Human version or DIY ideas

This thread is to compare canine version things to human version things which are often cheaper and equally effective.

For example, I was looking for canine conditioning equipment such as wobble boards, balance disc, and hurdles and here is what I found:

Canine (fitPAWS) wobble board 20" : $65.95

Amazon.com : FitPAWS 20 Wobble Board for Dog Fitness and Agility : Pet Agility Products : Pet Supplies

Wobble board 16" : $29.35

Amazon.com : j/fit Round Fixed Angle Balance Board, 16-Inch : Wobble Board : Sports Outdoors

Canine balance disc 14" : $30.95

Amazon.com : FitPAWS Balance Disk, 14 inch, Blue : Balance Boards : Pet Supplies

Balance disc 14" : $15.99

Amazon.com : ProSource Diameter Core Balance Cushion Exercise Disc Trainer Board with Pump, Purple, 14-Inch : Prosource Exercise Disc : Sports Outdoors

This is my favorite:

Canine hurdles (4): $199.99

Amazon.com : FitPAWS Hurdle Set for Dog Fitness and Agility : Pet Agility Products : Pet Supplies

Hurdles (4): $39.95

AGORA Hurdle Cone Set - 8 Cones and 4 Poles-AYSOSTORE

This difference is that the canine version can adjust up to 30" and the soccer one only adjusts to 13", but if you need it any higher you can always buy the large cones at Home Depot and cut your own holes and still use the poles which only costs $2.45 to buy on the soccer site.

Okay so....here's one that's equally priced:

Canine (fitPAWS) balance pods (4) : $29.71
Amazon.com : FitPAWS Paw Pods for Dog Agility : Pet Agility Products : Pet Supplies

Balance Stones (4) : $29.95

AND instead of buying a weave pole set that is around $60 for 6 poles, you can get 16 slalom poles for $80.

Slalom Poles| Agility Poles, Speed Poles, 9 Cones, Marker Cones, Space Marker Cones, Training Cones, Training Markers, Soccer Training Equipment

OR you make your own weave poles!

I don't have any example off hand but I have noticed that if there is a paw print on it the price goes up 2-3x what the paw print-less object.

Cool!

I will say, I get most of my home gym equipment from Ross or TJ Maxx... for at least 50% less than elsewhere.
I bought one of those balance boards for $4.99... just because it was cheap. It's actually kinda fun, though! I keep it near the kitchen, and will stand on it while chopping veggies for dinner. :)

Wow! The price differences are incredible!

I would loooooove to get hurdles for Thalia. She would go bananas for them and $39.95 isn't too bad when you compare it to the $199 for the doggy version!

I really want to build the dogs an A-Frame. I think the girls would have a blast with it. I think Angus would probably be too scared.

Arg, my work computer won't let me post links, but max200.com sells agility A-frames for between $900-$1,200 and a DIY website I was looking at says you can make one for about $100.

Thalia's birthday is coming up soon, so I think I might order the hurdles...

OMG you can just build those A frames yourself and mess it up 10x and still not cost you anywhere near 1k...or are these outrageous Canandian prices? lol

LOL the website says they are based out of Port Byron, NY. No crazy Canadian prices.... although.... could you imagine the shipping costs on an A-Frame?!

Yah, if I've got an animal who needs to take more than a week's worth of a med I'll frequently ask if I can get it from the regular pharmacy. Not always, it depends, but yah, the human versions are often cheaper.

We'll be working on it soon enough!

B and I are still debating stroller models. :D

There is an intructable doing this, but we'll be doing it differently. The one he did is a bit makeshift in my opinion, but some great general ideas: DIY dog pull cart made out of a folding bicycle trailer.

He uses a baby bike trailer. I want three wheels to avoid unnecessary stress on the back. Both of these human products are built to have good suspension, though, to keep the child safe at higher speeds and going off curbs. My cousin has both of these products for her baby... and her asthmatic pug. :p
