Yeah I know what you mean DD. I am much more motivated during the cooler months. The heat wears me out & makes me not want to do anything at all other than stay in the a/c & sleep. LOL

How's everyone doing with their diet\workouts? I'm down 48 pounds now. 18 more to go.

That's awesome!! Congrats!! As of yesterday I was down a little over 13 lbs. I'll be weighing myself shortly so I'm hoping I can say that's 14. My goal was to lose 2 lbs this week & I am so close. 23 more to go! :)

You guys want a laugh? I've been walking 6 miles a day, 5-6 times a week & then also alternating other workouts (legs, arms, etc) throughout the week. When it cools off some more, still currently in the 90s here, I want to incorporate HIIT training. Anyway day before yesterday I had done a bunch of lunges & squats. Last night My friend & I were finishing up our 5th mile & there was a loose dog running around. The owners were barely yelling for it so I turned to my friend & said, "that's what I call 0 recall". I didn't want the dog to go in the street, which is where it was heading. I *tried* to take off running & just about collapsed. My legs & butt decided running was an absolute NO & I immediately had to stop. Luckily the dog ran up to me, attempted to bite me in the process & I lead it back to it's owner while giving a stern look & telling them they needed to control their dog. Not 15 minutes later the dog was loose again & another person was taking it back to the owner. Not funny about the dog, just funny about my fatigued legs & they were absolutely not going to let me run whatsoever.

Haha Raechie. If I ever tried running that's probably exactly what would happen to me. Congrats on the 13 pounds, btw!!

I don't workout. I work 12-14 hours a day and there's really no time but I'm finding out the hard way that I'm losing muscle as well as fat. :-( I eat a lot of protein in the form of chicken and lean beef, so I don't understand why I'm so weak.

Keep going, DD. You can do it!

I need some advice from those who workout/lift weights regularly.

Franklin had an "incident" this morning. :-( I've discovered just how weak I've become and that I can no longer hold him back at all. My questions are...if I increase my protein to say 80% of my diet, will it help to increase my muscle? Do I need to lift weights and if so, what's a good way to start?
Thanks. :)

The only way to increase muscle is to use your muscles. If you don't want to lift weights you can do things such as push ups, squats, and lunges. All of these use your own body weight for resistance.

80% is WAY too high. It will kill your liver and kidneys. Unless you are lifting heavy, and by heavy I mean amounts you can only lift 4-5 times, upping your protein will not help you keep your muscle.

At most I would say 35% protein, 40% carbs, 25% fat (good fats). Even when I am bulking, I do not do more than 45% protein.

Hmmmm I wonder how my kidneys are? I do eat mostly meat.

I am not against high protein, what I eat would be considered high protein. But at 80% you would not be getting enough carbs and fat to function. Also, there is no need to do it for muscle growth unless your were straining your muscles. Muscle growth comes from tearing down your muscle with hard loads, then rebuilding it.

Body builders eat at max 2 grams per pound of body weight a day.

Just thought I'd check in as this morning was a complete surprise! In 7ish weeks I have lost 17 lbs. I am 2 lbs away from my weight last May. If I count from my heaviest in January of 2012, I have lost a total of 26.5 lbs. how is everyone else doing??

Congrats!!!!! I'm happy for you:) keep up the good work.

I've had ups and downs but I lost 13 lbs so far. I'm 8 lbs away from my high school weight. I still got about a good amount to lose before I see my size 4. It's my goal for Christmas.

That's awesome!! I think I would look like starvin Marvin if I got down to high school weight. My goal is to lose at least 9 more lbs by the time I leave for vacation on 11/22. So I have a little less than 7 weeks. My ultimate goal is to be down to 125 so I'm not going to give myself a time on that, but maybe I'll reach it by New Years.
