Food Warning!!

Today I was told the results came back 100% positive for salmonella poisoning. The research center came to the house and picked up the bag of dog food and everything it was in contact with due to contamination. We are going to send them a diarrhea sample from the night everything happened.
I still have to talk to the CFIA but was told that not much can be done because in Canada dog/Cat food isn't regulated meaning it doesn't go through any testing. They informed me that they have even seen cases where the salmonella was detected in the states so company will opt to sell it here instead due to the lack of inspection.
I was told the best outcome from this would be direct proof to have the foods become regulated here. There thoughts are that people do sometimes fill bowls by hand or it is possible for toddlers to get into food bowls.

I am still going to speak to a lawyer but achieving anything is looking slim. I will still post the results when I have them but have also been told it could take awhile coming from the government.

All I can hope or is it helps someone down the road because as it sits right now it seems everything is dragging the situation out and not letting the family put things to rest, every phone call or new piece of info seems to kick the wife and kids back through their emotions...

You helped me think about it cuz, I have currently got off my a$$ and dealt with my inside voice about the kibble I have been feeding my dogs; I have worried about the maker of it. Granted they have been doing good with it but the maker (Diamond) obviously has a bad history.

I will post this on my FB, just didn't think of it, but I'll do my part and pass along. Agree with you, if just one benefits from this info and make them really check out what they are feeding them would make me happy.

I know I've passed it along and shared it on my facebook page. Even in the horrific circumstance of Moe's death, he's helping save countless others. I know you're sad, but you should be just a little bit proud of your boy. RIP, Moe. And, again, I'm extremely sad to hear of his passing.

Very sad indeed
I couldn't even fathom how I would feel if that happened to me.
I use to feed our dogs the Kirkland lamb and rice then one day they refused to eat it.
Glad I changed their food.

cuz, Larry. First off R.I.P. Moe and no disrespect to his memory but.

I contacted Kirkland after reading your posts on Facebook because I feed another Diamond product to my dogs and wanted to check to make sure I was safe and they said they contacted you on Friday 01/23/15 and the DVM that contacted me said at that time their was no clinical information regarding the cause of death for your dog. They also got the code date from you and checked the samples they send to the independent labs and the food tested negative for salmonella.

So I am wondering what exactly is going on here? Is it possible Moe got into something else and did your necropsy test positive for an amount of salmonella that would cause a fatal infection? 90% of dogs have salmonella in the gut so a necropsy test will show positive for the bacteria in most cases but that does not always mean it was the cause of death.

Again I am very sorry for your loss but I am just looking for answers in case my dogs are in danger.

Kirkland discussed cuz's devastating sudden death of Moe with you over thier dog food test and results?

To me that's private info between Kirkland and Cuz, maybe public for us because cuz points the finger at them but not the other.

This speaks alot to me about kirkland wow!

They replied to a concerned Diamond brand dog food customer. cuz brought this event into the public eye not me. Also be aware he has posted this publicly on Facebook and it has been shared around 90 thousand times.

Moe ate from that same bag of dog food on 5 different feedings prior to him becoming ill and the symptoms that Moe presented are not what would present if the dog had contracted salmonella. If the dog had salmonella cuz would have had plenty of time to take Moe to the vet and most likely would have been able to save the dog's life. It took 7 hours for whatever was wrong with Moe to take his life. Salmonella would not do that unless the dog was already seriously immunity compromised.

I feel for the family and their loss. I still feel the pain of the ones I lost and still feel the panic and anxiety I suffered when my older dog nearly died last summer. Thank God I got him to the vet in time to save him.

Strange they told you that they contacted cuz, why discuss cuz when your asking about your bag of food because of complaints? Obviously he isn't the only complainer?

You in my opinion can do what you think is necessary for your dog, and discuss what ever you think is needed. Just as I do, I don't even serve kirkland but cuz's story and seeing the complaints and the history was enough for me to stop feeding a diamond product, I felt no need to call them to get assurance.

Just I find it strange that they would discuss a guy off the internet out of hundred of complaints to you.

so I say again you--ok, but Kirkland--? too much smoke around them.

I agree with you Mike, And since no necropsy was done there is no way anyone can say they know 100% what the cause of death was. I can understand that the owner of the dog is looking for an answer to why, I would too, especially with a young dog. But if you read the the original post it states that they had a bed in the garage, so he must have spent some time in there, could he got into something in there? I'm also feeding a Diamond brand and was concerned, but the way I read the story there is no proof that the food alone did it, only speculations. Still very sad for the family.
