Hog Doggin'

That is awesome, well done. Does he ever wear one of those protective vests or would that slow him down too much? Would love to try this with Gus, but don't really have the hunting knowledge to get my foot in the door. When the boars are in bigger group, would they defend each other or is it each hog for himself? I know there is a big pig outbreak back in central Saskatchewan, not too far from me.

I love watching that show where they hunt these hogs. I'm all for hunting, especially those! The one I saw had a beautiful harlequin Dane as their main lead dog, but pitties and a couple other breeds were there too.
I bet it is such a rush being out there and doing that. Good for you! Have fun and be safe!

What is the show called Stevsh?

boonfoggin - It's called Hogs Gone Wild on Discovery Channel. Hubby and I were addicted to it this past spring when we caught the first episode one night. They follow about three or four different groups of professional hog hunters in Texas and Florida. One couple in Texas have a beautiful Dane named Riddick (love the name) that is awesome to watch. Although all the dogs are just awesome to watch in their element.

Here's a link to a part of an episode. They have a camera on Riddick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_3ya1b2NjM

And look what i found while i was searching for the show! It appears to be the same owners of Riddick have a Dogo in there too! :)

No, I dont have a cut vest or collar. I am gonna be getting one of each soon to avoid injuries in the future. His injuries are very superficial but took him to the vet for the antibiotics because he is a house dog when he isn't hunting and spends a lot of time on the carpet. The antibiotics I get almost close wounds overnight. Luckily he has never had any injuries other than on his head and muzzle. It looks like you have a dogo, boonfoggin. If any dog was created to catch hogs, its the dogo. Beautiful animals indeed!

This is incredible! What a great way to spend time together and like the others, I think anytime a dog can actively utilize a trait/talent is a great thing. Thank you for sharing and posting pictures.

Wholly S_ _ _balls! Wow Caleb! Those pics are the coolest! I would love to do that with Miel. We have some wild hogs (Santa Anna River) by my house but it's illegal unfortunately. Miel would be great though. She's already taken out 12 roosters, lol.

Queixada pecaries? Those must be similar to our javelinas. I'm sure you would have to use some good chest armor with those. They all have nasty teeth! I've also hunted with a lot of crosses...mostly pitbull crosses, "blackmouth cur" and American Bulldog.

Yes, it's definitely exhilarating. Dogues were also once great catch dogs....and were actually my favorite breed back when I lived near you. I used to live in Fallbrook after I got out of the Marines, and lived in Carlsbad after that. I spent a lot of time working in Temec, Murrieta, Lake Elsinor, etc, etc.. I also did quite a few ride alongs with Riverside County Sheriffs department. How does that dog of yours do in that insane heat that you guys can have in the dead of the summer? I can remember seeing signs on the freeway that read 114 degrees, and I think they were accurate.

Cody I am taking our Cane to Saskatchewan for a PIG hunt in 3 weeks, my buddy has 2 pitties and a Coon hound he trained with in Texas for 2 years and asked if I wanted to bring him along and see how he does. In Edmonton we have wild rabbits everywhere and once he sees one he goes nuts to try and find it so we will see how it goes. I was a littel concerned cause he is only 5 months old but my buddy had his pitties out at 3 months to start learning so we will see how it goes. If it goes well maybe you can join us with you Corso's haha

Where in Saskatchewan? I grew up just north of North Battleford. There are a bunch BIG hogs around there.

Caleb I live right off the 15. Old Town Mira Loma to be exact. I live off Limonite which is right after Norco. My wife and I are planning on moving to your old stomping grounds next year. We'll probably buy a house in Wildomar or Murrieta. Yeah, it gets pretty hot in Mira Loma too. Miel is pretty much an inside dog but is a neurotic gaurd which I love. She's constantly going in and out of the doggy door. She's either barking at the tweekers or killing roosters, lol.

Awsome! I was a dogue fanatic back when I lived there! Would have liked to run into one.

Great Pics! Sorry, I have been away for a while. I tend to spend more time outdoors when it starts cooling off. I think it's great that you are using Corsos. I wish more people in Texas would.
