We're all here for you Tammy. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm hoping that it is benign and not a cancer at all. In the meantime try incorporating some of the foods Dr. Li has identified as potent cancer fighters. I gave you the link above. I remember mushrooms were on it as well as blueberries, onions, garlic, green teas, etc.,

Oh, someone mentioned the Documentary "Food Matters", I believe you can watch the whole thing on the Internet. It really points out just how important our food is to our health...I don't remember any specific advise re cancer, but it did advocate for buying and consuming the best, unadulterated food that you can buy. Avoid all engineered foods and processed foods. Buy locally, where possible, and give your body the best ammunition for a long and healthy life.
Thank you!! I plan on doing a lot of reading this weekend. Hopefully my head will have the room to take in all the information you guys have so kindly provided me with!

I agree with the whole, fresh food approach- best healing foods for your body.

Look into turmeric, which contains curcumin--- a very powerful healing and detoxifying herb. Lots of studies done on it's positive effects...

And stay far, far away from sugar. Sugar feeds cancer. (Even if it's not cancer, I would stay away from it!)

I just wanted to say, MM.....I am having major problems with my teeth -- I lost the crown for my two front teeth, so that I only have tiny vampyre fangs; a filling fell out, half of a molar broke, and the dentist is insisting I need to have almost every tooth in my mouth 'renovated' or get implants or dentures. Further, he won't replace the crown until that is completed. (Definitely time for a new dentist!) I had been feeling extremely depressed, angry and rather sorry for myself.

Then I read your posts, and my issues really paled to total insignificance in comparison! Teeth are only teeth and can be replaced. So your describing your fraught challenges really shook me out of my self absorption. If I can think of anything my friends did in terms of diet or other more holistic approaches, I shall pass them along as well!

Hi, my father had lung cancer and unfortunately, the cancer spread to his bones by the time it was diagnosed. He only had a few radiation treatments and didn't even had a chance to do a chemo. The road to an exact diagnosis was an x-ray, a CT Scan and a biopsy for the doctors to identify the exact type of cancer he had. I didn't write this to discourage you, but just wanted you to have all the information out there. Everybody is different and reacts differently to treatments and diseases... I hope the best for you.

Also, there was a new research that showed that anti-oxidants are not good for lung cancer and here's the link: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/272041.php

I hope your final diagnosis turns out to be nothing. Best wishes!

Ok, so, here goes. I have recently found out that I probably have lung cancer.
I went to the doctor the week before last because I had a cough that would not go away and my breathing was becoming strained, I was getting out of breath quickly and I thought maybe I had asthma (my mom has it). I went for an xray on Monday at 9am and within 4 hours my doctors office phoned me to ask me to come in that evening and bring a friend or family member. My immediate thought was 'oh $#@!' and I wasn't wrong. There is a large 'm$#@!/tumour' on the centre of my left lung. The doctors says it is best that I prepare myself for the fact it is cancer. I am on whats called a fast track or '2 week' list, this means I should be having further tests and a final prognosis within 2 weeks. I am going for my CT scan tonight at 5.15 (my time). So what I want to know is if there is anyone here who has been through this and what happened to you? Please know it took a great deal of thinking before I posted this, I don't want anyone thinking that I am just after sympathy or a 'poor MM', that's not it at all. I am after information, any information, good or bad, from anyone who has been through this or knows someone who has. As you can imagine my head is a shed at the moment, my brain wont switch off. Also has anyone heard of or tried apricot kernels for cancer? Thanks for listening/reading.

Hello. I can't believe it, but I just signed up and was going to do my first post. Your post was the first one I read. I am thinking devine intervention here. My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2011. It was located in the right lung, upper lobe. He did 36 rounds of radiation, along with 7 rounds of chemo therapy. We were told after he completed them all, that he was a candidate for a lobectomy-removal of the upper lobe. We were referred to a wonderful thorasic surgeon, Dr. Raja Flores,(world renown) at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NY on Oct 19.2011. As it turned out-the tumor had done so much damage, that they had to do a pneumanectomy (not sure of the spelling-but it means lung removal,) and I just want to say that our prayers were answered as it is now over 2 years later, and thank God he is still cancer free. I would like to offer this advice. Get the best DR with the most experience you can find. Don't settle for anything less. Get on a healthy diet, there is a great book called "Cooking for Cancer"....which I found to be very helpful in keeping weight on him. Sleep well, exercise, meditate, and pray. Get yourself in a good place in your mind. Find someone that will share all your fears. You need to talk about them. Make time to make special moments. Keep a journal of your journey. We look back to see the darkest days and rejoice in our blessing. I don't know you ...but I will add you to my morning prayers. Wishing you renewed health. Dorothy

You're right, NYDDB! I had forgotten about the Tumeric and the sugar connection. Absolutely wean yourself off sugar, it drives cancer turbo-style. And, don't try using substitutes because most of then are toxic and some have the same effect on your body as real sugar. See Dr. Robert Lustig's documentaries on YouTube!!!

Tumeric has a lot of evidence to back up its use as a potential cancer fighter. I'm sure you can find it in pill format, but if not, you can buy empty gelatin caps at the health food store and make your own in your own kitchen. :doggyhug2:

Honey instead of sugar, and I don't know about honey over there, but the honey you buy in most stores here has been so filtered its not much better than syrup. See if you can find someone who has their own bees who sells their own honey....

I am sorry to hear about this Tammy. I have no experience with lung cancer, my dad had colon cancer. I do know staying positive is a huge part of kicking it's ass. You have the right attitude! Ask tons of questions too...I have noticed that some doctors don't tell you the whole story unless you push them. You are in my thoughts :)

Hi Tammy, I took some time to watch Food Matters again on Netflicks. Do you get Netflicks? I had forgotten how much it had to say about Cancer. Even if you don't have Cancer, you will, find information that will extend, if not save your life.

Also great views: "Hungry for Change" and "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead."

This is really eye-opening stuff...simply life changing. I haven't been in England since the mid-80's, but I remember how hard it was driving around to find vegetable heavy meals. I remember it being meat and dairy and fat heavy, even in the better restaurants. We found the best food in Indian and Greek establishments. I thought I was fading away, I really needed salads and veg stir fries. It's probably different now (I hope!)

Update us. Let us know what's happening. Also, give your dogs a big hug from all of us. I'm sure they know somethings wrong with mommy.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. I'm hoping it is not cancer. I do have a friend how had part of one lung [have no details] taken out about a 1 1/2 ago due to cancer, she opted not to do chemo or radiation, she is now back to work! Thinking of you! Mia

Just some more thoughts - you said you weren't sure when you'd hear about the CT scan results... keep nagging them.
In today's digital world, they can get the scans in the right hands fast.
Unless the best DR is on vacation, you should nag them until they get you to the top of the priority list.

A friend of mine in Arizona had a cancer scare (suspicious breast lump) and they MAILED her the request for re-exam.... her DR wasn't worried about the 2-week delay in the re-scan! She got a new DR (she's bitchy - and I mean that in a good way :)). The new DR got on the phone with the oncologist after the re-scan and had them review it before she left the office!!

It can be done - be your own advocate! Take a support person with you to help ask questions, too - it can help to have a second set of eyes and ears there with you.

Tammy, I think we're all holding our breath and praying, please update us.

Oh, and before I forget, there's a relatively new treatment where the gene sequence a sample of your specific cancer and then the treatments are honed to its weaknesses. I'll try to get you specifics and local (British) doctors.

Hello everyone!! Im sorry if I am tardy with my replies/posts at the moment, life is a little 'hectic'. The latest update is that I see my consultant tomorrow. Its a bit of a weird one....everyone has been telling me to 'go private', make an appointment to see a doctor at a private hospital rather than an NHS (National Health Service) hospital. Yesterday I rang up the private hospital closest to me as was referred to a doctor that from what I could find mainly deals with breast cancer but also treats lung patients. I cant really find out all that much about her on the net. I made an appointment to see her Thursday and put the phone down. 5 minutes later my NHS hospital rings to offer me an appointment to see their leading respiratory specialist. I informed that I had decided to go private but thank you very much. No sooner had a I put the phone down as I was contacted again by the specialist at the NHS hospital basically saying that he will respect my decision on whom I choose for treatment but he knows that the private hospital can not offer me the type of specialist I am going to need and rather than waste any more precious time I seriously consider going to see him. How could I say no? This man clearly is concerned, a leader in his field and is contacting me personally. So, I am going tomorrow at 2.30 to get an update. I have had my appointment confirmed by email....and sadly I noticed on the email a lady called Tracy was cc'd....in brackets after her name is (Cancer Care). So my lovely, lovey friends I think we are pretty safe in saying this is going to be cancer. How bad and how far I hope to know tomorrow. Please don't stop your prayers just yet and I promise to try and get here more to keep you updated. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your love and your support! You really have no idea just how much it means to me.
