male Mastiff puppy growth?

I am kind of concerned about my male puppy's growth weight. He was born Oct 3rd 2012 and at the end of 13 weeks our vet weighed him at 55.6 ibs. According to my book he should weigh that until 16 weeks plus. We are getting another set of shots this Saturday and will be weighed again. According to the vet he is not over weight and we are following the food charts for him.

55 lbs at 13 weeks is definitely a big boy, but if he looks healthy and your vet says he's not over weight I'm sure he's fine. You may just have a really big pup.

You have any pictures?

He looks really good just BIG for his age :). I have a female EM and at 13 weeks she weighed just 29 pounds. She is small for her age but she is growing in height so hopefully she will reach the 140 that the breeder is expecting. We will continue to love her no matter how big or small she is.

At 18 weeks my boy was at 72 lbs. Keep in mind all em's grow differently. My current pup had little tree trunk legs with a stout, thick body as a small pup and was very heavy, my last boy was narrow and lighter and stayed lean and leggy until about age 1. They continue to grow and mature until about age 3. Cruiser tomorrow will be 10 months old and weighs about 155 lbs. Buddy at 10 months weighed 130, and at age 3 weighed right at 200. They seem to eventually fill out in all the right places and average out. Your pup looks very healthy, I wouldn't worry!

Just do a double check and ensure your protein level is low, which if I remember correctly on that Canidae, it should be. You want to keep it around 21-25 per cent, particularly if he's growing quicker. My friend's great dane was already 100lbs at around 6 months. Sometimes, it just happens. Where as my Gummy, he's taking forever!

I would have to agree with Crystalanya on this one check the food for protein % personallyly believe that you can not help if you have a quick or slow growing puppsometimeses it is in the dogs best interest if they grow slowly, however if it can't be helped then it can't be helped. I have talked to my breeder on this subject quite a few times she has been breeding for over 20 years as well as being a vet for the same. She tells me that it is best if you can curb the growth rate by regulating the food however dogs just apeoplele grow at different rates, she has 9 fully grown EM's and several litters a year she tells me that regardless of the size of her pups and each ones growth rate they usually turn out to be roughly the same size when fully grown. BTW you have a lovley puppy!!

Yes, the Canidae is 24% protein. I had him weighed on his birthday March 3rd @ 5 months and he was 90.7 lbs.
