Neapolitan Mastiff Wrinkles

Alright so I was looking at ads for dogs all around the country and I came upon this ad:

http://chicago.ebayclassifieds.com/...n-mastini-kennel/?ad=19517720&msg=OUT_OF_AREA

Now I don't mean to offend any Neo owners, but I noticed the picture of the man holding the neo's jowls open and was pretty shocked. Is that excess of wrinkles supposed to be a selling point? Does the breed standard really call for that? I also just read an article on all these neo's being disqualified for entropion due to such excesses. The only Neo I've ever met came from a pet store and therefore a puppy mill, but that dog looked healthier than these "champions". It looked more like a larger, slightly more wrinkled Cane Corso... I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here, but I just had to say something.

yes neo r suppose be very wrinkly it is what makes the breed thats the standard but there r breeders that take too far to the point it gets in the way of the dog beening heathy (eyes,eating/drinking,walking/running,working) n a neo should never look like a corso neither a corso should look like a neo, standard def. say that isnt suppose to happen, if u want a corso go for it but if u want a neo than get one just cuz some people dont like the way a dog looks doesnt mean its the same for others :p oh ya im a corso owner lol althought i like the old school neo's myself:)

I think this is a prime example of the argument between the old school working neo vs newer show neo that many consider overdone and undeniably less healthy...

That is A LOT ofskin. I suppose some folks like that. I don't knowmuch about NEO's and I don't have a desire to ever own one but the ones that I have seen that I thought were pretty had much less skin/wrinkles than this one.

Depends on who you talk to! Personally I can't stand the overly wrinkled dogs, except for pups when they're squishable lol.

And technically the DQ for entropian was in the UK. The AKC has publically stated they're not going to force any breed to change their standard.

I personally like this. Some wrinkles but not enough skin that I feel I could make another dog with.

Oh and thanks for the correction! I read the article quickly and with my US-centrism thought it was in the US.

I love wrinkles, but that's just too much. I think they're ruining the breed making them look like that! The above pic is beautiful! My Camo has wrinkles, but not in the extreme!

i agree. I am all about the working neo. They had the correct temperment, and proper working body type. newer show neos are health bomb shells and are not able to preform at peak levels due to conformation being overlooked

I like the puppy that is pictured above. The overly excessive wrinkled one (Yuck) I think some breeds are trying to pull back from that in their lines but they are going to have some work to do to get it back. There are still some out there with the working lines that don't look a thing like the ones on the ebay post but I would say they are the minority.

I don't understand how some Mastinari rationalize excessive wrinkles on the Mastino and say that they've always been excessive. Just look at the top Mastinos from the 70's, totally different from the messes that are placing high in many of the shows today.

you cant go back more than 30 years and find a single neo that looks like the current show neo. they are so full of sh*# saying that all those wrinkles are the neo! and saying they are preserving the neo!? a dog that lives 5-6 years full of medical issues, cant have natural births due to anatomical issues, just freakin mind blowing. Its so sad and angering to me. I am a big fan of neos , but i cant support the current show trends.
