Hello everyone! My wife and our 4 young kids and I live near Calgary Canada. We are expecting our pup tomorrow! I'm excited to gain knowledge from others who have had mastiff breeds.
Our beagles passed away 2 and 3 years ago and I have been researching breeds for the past 3 years.
I wanted a breed with a bit of a presence as I do a lot of hiking and bush camping in the rocky mountains here. My kids have started showing interest in coming with me and I feel better having a partner aiding me in their protection, both out there and at the house...not to mention providing that loving, devoted companionship of a mastiff.
After my extended research I felt I had it down to the cane corso, bullmastiff or a Mastador. Ironically I ended up finding a litter that is quite unique. I observed the parents for an hour and and a half and loved their alertness as well as their ability to accept my family quickly and head to their beds. They were both so sweet and gentle and they even ended up guarding my kids as they ran around the owners acreage!
Mom - 50% corso, 50% tosa inu
Dad - 50% presa canario, 50% chocolate lab
So our pup will be 25% lab and 75% mastiff (corso, tosa and presa - 25% each)
I'm excited for our new female pup companion and the journey (and hard work) ahead and thankful for any and all information I can lean on in this forum!
