Presa Canario incident in St. Paul

Methinks there is a whooooole lot more going on than a child accidently stepping on the dogs' genitals that one time. Poor thing, sounds like Blue was routinely teased and abused. 100 lbs difference in weight is more than considerable, it's downright scary for that kind of fluctuation.

Keep in mind that we had a presa as a family dog (one of the first in the uk) and I like the breed,
1) what kind of moron has a presa as a pet with young children unless they are willing to put the effort in to properly train both kids and dog?
2) no one should let a young child kiss a dog in the face, leaning into a dogs face fast with eyes wide open and mouth partly open is a threat in canine behaviour
3) Reading between the lines this family were at best nectlecting the dog and at worst actively abusing it
4) Presas are screwed as a breed if morons like this are allowed access as owners
5) Presas are a glorious and rewarding breed but they are also a hard work breed and events like the above are going to become more and more common.

I wish I had solutions for the above but aside from shooting all BYB's, I'm stumped.

Its sad that this breed is going the way of the APBT and Rottweiler I know here in Cali there already hip to them and found looking around that they are already banned a lot so sad this dog sounds like it was uncomfortable a lot people don't understand you have to train your children as much if not more than the dog

Exactly. Oscar's got the makings of a great "big brother", but I can't imagine letting a kid of any age get "in his face" or just tromp around on him or pester him when he's ill. Nail on the head, Tiger12490, you have to train the children and the dog.

Its constant with out kids and dog they all need daily reminders. Its a lot of work more then most are willing to do.

If you really want to get your blood boiling read the comments!

I agree some of those comments are out of control. I am pleased to see the support of the dog though and people just in general advocating knowledge and responsibility.

As far as the incident goes.. people are stupid. The parents are not being parents, end of story. I hope the dog finds a good home where he is loved

Same with labs..... I can't (actually I can, ) believe how many comments were made about Oh, I have yet to see any news about golden retriever attack, oh you should get a lab or a golden retriever because they make great family pets. my god.

And then how someone said, just because you don't read it, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.. and yet talks about how people have a "blind eye" on these so called dangerous dogs.... um okay.
