What not to do at a dog show (SAO Dogs)

Or at least learn how to manage the giant dog in an emergency first. I'll admit I probly weigh more than that lady, but I'm not any bigger, and I know how to manage Apollo in an emergency and I CAN. Especially since there there was at least a couple seconds of warning before her dog launched off....

its good that the black and white one didnt want to fight or it could have been much worse and the owner of the b&w one looked like he was on a sunday stroll behind his dog. 2 people that should not have been handling these dogs in the ring

They look like CAS,

These breeds are used for fighting among other things, not surprising. I just find it upsetting that it will soon be bred out.......

Pretty sure CAO/CAS types, Ovtcharka. Sorry Deb V it is on FB and I couldn't see how to grab it off. That lady made many mistakes but the guy could have stopped the whole thing if he just pulled his dog back and allowed the woman to gain control of her dog. The black and White talked crap to the white brown and he was not going to let it slide.

That's what I got too, I thought it was funny.

I know its wrong to say but I was impressed with their power, and I love the intensity of the brown and white. If they are prancing in the ring its only a matter of time.

I disagree that tiny women shouldn't show giant dogs but I agree that both owners/handlers needed to have better control of their dogs. That guy doesn't make any sense. First, his dog was the one with the issue and he allows it to stare down and threaten the other dog in order to get it riled and then knowing they were both agitated he ......Stroll along with the dog, looking ahead of him the whole time until it is too late? No one seems to stop or move ahead quicker to build some distance between the dogs...or did I miss something? Then when they do tie up.....What is the guy doing, exactly?

Working with APBT's (I realize they are much smaller but the idea is the same) for many years, I have learned that control is not about body strength/size/muscle as a rule. I mean, when the shit hits the fan more physical strength is definitely helpful BUT I have always found that assessing situations continuously, knowing your animal, training and just being very observant can avoid the majority of these incidents.

The size of the guy (Big) and the size of the woman (small) is not at all what allowed this situation to alleviate out of control. It would appear the size of their brains, however, made a lot of difference.

Personally I loved the brown and white even though he was out of control. Such size and power it was like he didn't even know the woman was holding him back. I bet that lady was no more than 105lb and the dog was close to 160 or better. When she let up the slack on the leash to try to get at the collar that was just about it. Could have gone way worse but other people jumping in to help saved the day.

Junior picked a fight with one of these at the off leash dog park last summer... Its owner was useless and I was the only one trying to separate them. I was exhausted by the time it was over. LOL

Well I do think that that tiny woman needed more training with the dog she was showing but if she had been 30lbs bigger she might have been able to hold..err never mind it wouldn't have helped. She had no control at all. The big guy was at fault for sure which was really dumb as that light colored one was way bigger and obviously in a fighting mood. Yep the big guy was just playing stupid the whole time from start to finish. He was just looking like "Is there something wrong?"

I agree with Rugers-Kris its not a size issue its an owner issue. To me it appeared the brown and white dog showed lack of respect for the owner/handler.

I also disagree that the brown and white dog was "out of control" seem like a normal reaction for that caliber of dog. But others will find something wrong with it and breed it out.

No, she had no clue on what to do. And clearly expected the leash to mean something to the dog, and it didn't (and doesn't when a dog like gets it into his head). But the big guy could helped ALOT too, and he just stood there.

I agree this was a fairly tame dog fight I have seen a few bad fights at the local dog park and could only wish that more owners educate themselves to spot these brush ups before they happen and then learn how to deal with a fight that is in progress.
