Your weird phobias

So since we got on the topic of spiders and snakes. I thought this would be a good thread.

So yeah I don't spiders. However I also have Podophobia, yeah, I'm serious. I don't know why but they bother me, strange for someone who can see graphic material without wincing.

What's yours?

I hate spiders, and if its in teh house, and hubby's around, I make him squish it for me, but if he's not around I'm not so freaked out that I can't do it myself.

I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CANNOT STAND TICKS. I even bought a Tick Twister so I could potentially remove them myself, and I can't use it. I have to have someone else remove ticks.....

Ugh, Ruth I agree with you on ticks, I pulled over 30 off me at one time before but I can still tolerate them more than I can spiders. * shudders*

snakes don't really bother me. I don't like to handle them, cause I don't trust my ability to tell poisonous from non-poisonous, but at petting zoo's and the like I've handled them and they're kinda cool.

I freaking hate snakes...sputum, or the sound of someone trying to bring it up (sry...a left over from nursing days), and, as embarrassing as it is, if I see a mouse in the house I will scream and get on top of the closest chair/table/etc. at hand. I also sincerely hate bees/wasps/etc. My family once watched in amazement when I was fishing up on top of a high rock when there was still snow on the ground...a huge bumblebee landed on me...I screamed and jumped about 12 feet down into the freezing water...they still talk about it to this day; they were very unsympathetic and their main regret was no one got it on camera......

:lolbangtable: Haha, Cindy you sound like me. I"m not afraid of them, I just don't want to be stung, lol. But if one gets too close to me, I'm the amusement for the next 5 mintues.

Centipedes and silverfish, though go in the spider category, I just can't stand them......they scare the hell out of me.

Oh eeeewww, you had to remind me of centipedes.....they're worse than spiders for me, but not as bad as ticks. My first apartment was a split level and the bedroom was in the basement, half buried, I was in bed one night and this GIANT centipede crawled out of somewhere (I never did figure out where) and down the wall about 3 feet from my head.....the thing was at least 3 inches long (just its body)! I so totally freaked!

No really weird phobias. Spiders and snakes don't bother me. Rats don't and really there is no animal that I will freak out over. I used to have a fear of heights but I worked on that (helicopter ride anyone) and now I don't. Small claustrophobia but it is just that I can't stand having things on my face. Masks, scarves, etc. I can hide in a cramped space or go into a crowded elevator.

I have a few quirks. Like, if I am alone at night, I have to check the entire van before getting in. I hit the light and then walk around the entire van checking any spot that someone could be lurking. I also get spooked driving late at night and worry that I missed a spot when I checked the van over.

Hubby's afraid of heights, I laugh at him, but I also try to do as much of the stuff that requires a ladder as possible....

Oh and unfinished basements. I absolutely hate them. A friend of mine asked me why and my reasoning is very simply...the smell like a grave. I had a house with a dirt basement and I would often take my laundry to the laundromat so I wouldn't have to go down into the one room that wasn't dirt. After that, he developed a slight phobia of unfinished basements because every time he went into one, he would think of what I said and creep himself out.

Spiders and snakes are no sweat for me.

Any bug that moves fast or I don't really know what it is, I'm outta there. Centipedes are big one for me. I woke up about ten years ago, went into the bathroom, and noticed something in my hair (I have long thick hair). Upon looking closer, I came to realize it was a dead centipede. It had gotten tangled in my hair during the night and died. Nightmares happened for YEARS after that...
And scorpions. I moved to San Antonio for a bit, and swore I would be on the first plant back to WI if I ever saw one. Thankfully, my parents had the sprayer guy come ALOT while we lived with them so I didn't see one. Their water bugs (Cockroaches) weren't fun either. But I can't even look at a scorpion

Oh, its not bugs, but.....the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! I first saw it as a kid (about 8 or so I think) at a friend's birthday party, and I got to the part where the kid falls in the lake and gets sucked up into the tube and broke down into complete hysterics (I was never able to verbalize WHY that scene set me off, still can't either, I don't know, but it did). They had to call my mom to take me home. I had nightmares for ages after that, and not only can I still not watch that original version, even seeing the trailers for the newer version (with Johnny Depp) freaked me out.....

Snakes, spiders, etc don't bother me. I do startle easily, so in the movie theatre I yell out and my husband is constantly making fun of me.

My "weird" fear? You will all like this one. I freeze when I see an unattended dog. Sometimes a loud bark is all I need to hear. I freeze and literally freak out in my head. It has been so bad at times that I wouldn't take a walk outside. So, you may wonder why I got a big dog, huh? LOL. Well, I plan on being a better owner than the owners who let their dogs do what ever. And, I have never been afraid of friends or family dogs. It has gotten way better over the last couple years and having my own dog gives me a lot of confidence.

I would have never thought you would have a phobia like this Ruth. Aren't we all funny with the things that set us off :)

No creepy crawly fears, but I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE dirty feet. It gags me if someone's sitting near me with bad feet!!

And yeah, I know, what am I doing looking in the first place? I'm in India, we're generally barefoot at home.
