A question asked of me that I will pass on?

A coworker and I began talking and it turns out he has a Neo and for those of you that don't know I have a Corso. Immediately he had a question that he has been wanting to ask another mastiff owner about. Something that his dog does that he called "very strange" and was wondering if it was a mastiff thing or just his dog being weird.

His dog will be running through the woods and will come upon underbrush, and then immediately go into slow motion through it while it rubs along her fur. He said she can be running full speed, and then go into, what he described as a 6 million dollar man slow motion walk, and once through the bushes back to full speed. Some times even circle back and do it again. He hopes to catch it on video one of these days, because the way he described it sounded hilarious. His best guess is that the dog loves the feel of the branches rubbing its fur, and just wants it to last so walks extremely slow.

My corso does nothing of the sort. He attacks any branch, stick, grass, leaf, and so on with vigor. And he seems to intensely dislike all of our landscaping. He has never, to my knowledge, taken the time to feel branches against his fur, let alone enjoy them, because they are his mortal enemy.

So has anyone else out there experienced there dogs doing anything similar? His question got me wondering.

My Weim will do that, not as slow as your coworker describes his Neo doing it. But if we're walking and there is a newly clipped bush Maus will make the effort to walk next to it or through it to have the branches scratch her. Its quite amusing.

Not mine! But I would love to see a video :lolbangtable: Parker could care less about shubbery and Jax thinks he must destroy every tree, plant or bush that he comes across. He is very fond of my weeping cherry. He runs full blast and leaps to bite the brances.

My friends cocker does that! Slow motion under her shrubs and large Hosta plants. He does it around the Christmas tree also. Almost like in a trance he walks around slow slow with the branches touching his back. It looks hilarious.

OMG--- My Dogue does this. It is so strange, that I've never even talked about it before- mostly because it's hard to explain.

Mateo will go into a trance-like state whenever he goes under bushes or very low trees. Like his brain and his movements will slow WAAAAY down and it will be almost unable to pull him out of it. When he first did it I thought it was because he saw some birds or something under the bushes, but he will do this even when nothing (that I can see) is there. And it's different than his stalking behavior-- then he's focused and intense, but in this state he's, well, in another world. Like he's practicing a dog form of Tai-Chi...

Once a friend I was walking with witnessed this and she was kind of weirded out, lol. We were on our way home, when Mateo went into his trance under the bush. We had to gently coax him out of his trance, back into the real world...he always then shakes himself off and is back to normal.

This happens almost every day, during our walks in the park. I have gotten used to it, but it IS odd...

What you describe NYDDB sounds precisely how my coworker described what his dog does. He will be happy to hear he is not alone. You should try to get a video of it. I know I would get a kick out of seeing it.

This is something that EBT's do a lot, its called trancing. They do it under plants, curtains etc. I've never heard of a mastiff doing it but like I said its really common with EBT's (English Bull Terrier).

Well, it's also good to know I am not alone as well... :)

I'm going to try to capture this on video...

So there's a name for it, wow- interesting. That video is close to what Mateo does, although he movements are even slower. But the trance looks similar...he just gets so deep into it, and he doesn't even really hear me. Really, his brain goes someplace else...

I am so glad I started this thread. That video is too funny. I had a good friend that had a champion ABT. I believe the dog competed at Westminister. I went to a few shows for that breed, and I have to say they are impressive animals They all walked around the room like they were the only dog in it, but with out notice they were ready to go to war. I would never want one over a mastiff, but that breed is not too far behind.
