I am a married mother of 4 (ages 20, 18, 16 and 2). My husband and I have always owned Rottewielers in the past. Years after my beloved Chasy passed my daughter talked me into looking at a Rott on Craigslist that needed a home. Needless to say we ended up bringing home one very overweight 10 year old in which was the light of our life until her passing at the age of 12. My husband and I swore we were done with dogs then fate brought us our Pit Bull Daisy. Daisy was a 12 week old pup who was suffering from fleas and was skinny as a rail. We focused on getting her healthy and set out determined to learn about the breed and she fit into our family perfectly. It was only a few months later that we saw an ad on E-bay advertising our Viking for free. It was something about his eyes that haunted me, I showed my husband and we discussed the possibility of adding another addition to our family. Once agreed I submitted an email to the owner and we received a call and were notified that we had been choosen. I was very sad to hear that the reason we were choosen was the fact that out of over 100 emails we were the only family to include pictures of our home, children and the phone # to our vet, we were the only family that took the time to tell them about ourselves. We made the drive and when Viking jumped out of the car he was HUGE and very intimidating looking. Needless to say the big baby came home with us, riding in the back of our SUV with Daisy both of them loving the attention from the kids! Unfortunately when we came home we discovered he'd been kept outdoors and really lacked indoor manners, he was also overly protective of our family. We've been reading up on the breed and working with our vet and a personal trainer to curb the behavior. I must say it's been a little over a year and his manners have improved immensely however we learned very quickly that this breed requires lots of attention. I think my biggest frustration beyond the couch and family room wall being a 5 course dinner is the neighbors reaction to our dogs they literally act like their children will be mauled if the dogs were to come into contact with them.
