Short & sweet this is my sad tale..... Em 11 wk old male midas & maximus have had runs off & on for over a week... Tried chick & rice still had craps then switched to ground turkey & rice still have runs..... Finally begged well i actually cried from exhaustion & frustration their daddy to stop giving them scrambled eggs with the high protein powder (so they grow up big) what the hell they were born big..... Up until the craps they were on the science diet canned & dry food....

Any who now they are regressing in potty training & peeing in house too..... Daddy relented this morning & did not give them the super power eggs..... I hope it works for my sanity & for the two cuties..... But daddy is anal & will give them it again.....

My question izzzzzzzzz anyone have similar probs with the protein powders (& this stuff is made by a vet)????

Also the peepee regression any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it's not like i have one race horse peeing mastiff i gotzzz two.....

Other than craps, they are happy fed hydrated knuckle heads!!!!

My 2 cents...stop the eggs with protein powder. They should be getting their protein from their food not powder. I would assume that is the problem. It seems you need to fast them for a day and then start them on boiled chicken and rice until their stomach corrects itself. Make sure they are drinking water to prevent dehydration. Poor babies...diarrhea is horrible for humans and worse for dogs.

Hopefully Smart_Family and others will post a reply. Smart_Family is the dog food expert for commercial dog food. I feed my baby boy raw diet, so I can't help you out on the dog food end.

Exactly what i said to their daddy & they are way to young for this crap let them adjust to puppy food & just be hell puppy's......... But he is bound & determined to make these two as big & muscular as possible.... I said they were born to be big..... They were fine on their dry food & chicken entree (whole wet food) anything with gravy gave them mushy craps....... Until the super dooper pooper powder came in to the picture...... They ate a lil bit of their dry food & i made them their turkey meal & gunna see what pops out of their butts.... Sweety i can't imagine these two without food for a day..... Hell nooooooo they would probably eat me....... Lol

Well part of your problem is the SD, get them off that. And no powders, if you're feeding a good diet you don't need it. Eggs aren't bad, but that shouldn't be your main source of protein.

Boiled chicken or turkey or beef (pick one, don't rotate) and rice for several days till their systems return to normal, then pick a good quality food and stick with it. And no, regardless of what your vet says SD is not a good quality food...

Oh crap you just opened a whole new can of worms...... I broached the subject of the SD food with their Daddy a while back when they got the soft stools from the gravytastic canned food & of course I am misinformed... No I am not, I don't need a PHd to figure out the diff between a normal poop & mushy or the craptastic runs..... I am sticking with the turkey, Midas just took a itty bitty poop (nice size rock in it OUCH) but no black watery runs more beige brownish... Waiting for Midas to see his..... I think I should change my forum name to "SHIT HAPPENS"...... Daily with these two..... but I <3 them......

Seriously, get them off that protein powder ASAP. These types of dogs cannot grow too fast, it could cause serious issues with their joints and ligaments. EMs especially need to grow slowly over the span of 2 to 3 years.

Check the Health and Nutrition section here. You do not want to give the big puppies regular puppy food. You have to grow these babies slow or you will have joint/bone issues. Our EM is a year today. Our first super big dog if you don't count the Rottie and St Bernard. Mastiffs can have issues with chicken that cause diarrhea. We can't feed chicken or turkey without a mess. Also stay away from store foods. They are full of grain and a waste of money. It might cost a little more, but buy good food, at a pet store or online. I use Feeder Supply cause it's close, and since the Diamond recalls, Earthborn Holistic which is about $45 for 28 lb bag. I have read that raw is cheaper and better for the dog.

I agree 1000%. Sounds like your super duper wobbie hubbie needs to do some research. Hip displasia is not fun or funny!

Yah, you get them growing to fast your vet will be buying a new home from what you'll be paying them later. Slow is better.

Happy Happy Joy Joy Maximus just had a semi mushy stool but with mucas in it but better than the runs...... So far the turkey rice with a pat of butter & some spices shredded carrot (I know I am bad but they love it) is working minus super dooper pooper powder..... & I love all of you for your wealth of information...... I just called their Daddy (& no he is not my hubby) & read your reply's & shocked the crap out of me, no smart ass comment.... But he did say, then why is the SD food #1 with Vets...... I said just like doctor's push certain pills, same premise..... I told him to mull it over & think long and hard about the raw diet or holistic food, which the boyzzzzzzz do love my cooking, they like asparagus & edamame & carrots - Vegan Mastiff's now that's funny...... Nahz never happen they loves meat more.....

I know bland is best & it was just itty bit.... Just read why SD is Crap, very interesting & M & M nibbled at the dry & only licked the gravy off the meat but wouldn't eat it, I was hand feeding it to them.... The Chick Entree whole was the only one they ate without help.... Which made me wonder why & now I know...... M & M are SMART or have deserning tastes..... I knew there was something not right, these two are chow hounds...... You gotta see them eat an ice cream cone, too funny (it's a some times treat).... Thank you again for the information!!!!

Well Kelly Co Owner/boyfriend/PITA but I am the primary everything to these two knuckle heads..... They live with me & don't leave my side except when I go to work which affords me the luxury of only being gone for a few hours in morn & a few at night... I walk, break up fights, pick up tons of crapola, feed, socialize & have no life right now..... He was feeding them the Super Power Pooping Powder & Eggs in the morning, that's his way of bonding with them.... He does love them, he is who he is though, a knuckle head.... :)

So at 11 weeks they get science diet wet and dry, edename, carrots, ice cream, eggs, protien powder? All your missing is the kitchen sink! Thier little tummys are sensitive.
You're lucky its just diarea. My vote is to give the little guys a break. Hamburger boiled and boiled white rice for 3 days min.
And i'm sorry but the mentality that bigger is better rather then is what is best and healthy for the dogs, makes me ill.

Sadie had the "runns" for the first two months after we got her. After alot of trial and error, I have figured out that she can not handle any poultry at all and is very sensitive to grains. I have her on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Bison and she does great with it. I did something some of you might disagree with, but I switched her cold turkey (no pun intended) and 48 hours later, solid poop:D. My vet also prescribed FortiFlora, a probiotic. I too give her an egg yolk once in a while, for a great shiny coat, but not every day and no supplements. The Dogs are going to get as big as they get, no matter how fast they get there. But slow and steady is better to prevent joint problems. That is not worth it and no quality of life for the dogs, to live in constant pain. That will be two cents Please :razzberry:

I'll echo what others have, find a good quality food and stop with all the other junk...its not necessary. SD is junk, you might as well feed them dirt, i'm not against eggs every now and again but if they are having trouble you need to just cut out everything else and let them get to normal. Really there's no reason to grow them fast, EM's are gonna be huge no matter how you swing it so just let it happen slow and enjoy the ride.

ok, so you have a lot on your plate with 2 puppies and a "daddy" that isn't thinking it through or researching it out for himself, bless your heart. So here is a bit of help to make it step by step easier.
1. if you can buy the food at the grocery store, DON"T!!!!!!!!!
Babies have sensitive and still developing tummies, bland is better because it's what they can handle. They will eat when hungry, so DON'T spice it up. Read the threads in nutrition here and pick ONE food only to feed. A large number of mastiffs have poultry problems, so turkey and chicken are not great. Mine has problems with these so we feed poultry free. Also grains can be a problem too, try picking a great kibble that comes from a pet store that is whole life, adult food, that is chicken and grain free, and has the right nutrient balances. calcium/phosphorus/proteins
2. You must let your puppies grow SLOW!!!!! They will be the same size in the end no matter how fast they grow, so slow it down. No extra proteins!!!! Their food should be balanced and not require supplements. Growing too fast leads to lots of painful and costly bone/joint problems. It is not fair to the puppies to force them to suffer a painful life because you WANT them as big as possible as fast as possible. They are just like kids, let them get their safely, they will get there. The first 2 years are for growth, the 3rd is for filling out. Please share this with their daddy, this will give him the best pups around and make him a better daddy.

ok, so keep us posted as to their recovery and please, please listen to the folks on here giving you all the knowledge you need . I know you love your babies, but they also need the right love to be healthy and happy. Good luck
